The slope garden in early September.

I am surprised how well the flowers are lasting this year as everything seemed to start into growth really early on in the year. Although the weather has been rather cool most of the summer and the wind has been constant they have given us a really good show and loads for cutting and giving to friends and family. It’s been a real blessing having the conservatory this summer as we have been able to enjoy them through the windows as we have spent very few days sitting in the garden because of the cold wind. We also bought the summer house this year. Trust us to buy a summer house in the only year we don’t get a summer!!!!! It has been useful to shelter in and mash a cuppa tea when it’s started raining though or I have the shivers while working in the garden……lol.
Anyway, here is what we can see from the conservatory today…….it’s blowing a gale and raining like mad out there…….

I hope you have as much colour in your gardens still. Thankyou for looking in on mine………

Your slope garden is looking absolutely gorgeous. There's just so much lovely colour. I wouldn't mind spending a few hours sitting in the conservatory enjoying that view.

Thankyou so much Lulu and Bernieh. We have spent a lot of time in here with the miserable summer we have had and concequently I have given this part of the garden a lot more attention than the top gardens. Removing the overgrown hedge and widening the left side border has helped I think.

Thankyou, I haven't got half of the lovely plants you have Paul, but I am getting there slowly..... :o) Not many days at all when I have been out without a fleece or cardy on in this so called summer.

Thankyou so much Crissue I will pass on your comment to T bless him, he is Mr lift it and shift it to all the family. and if anything doesn't work at my daughters my grandaughter always says "grandpa's comming he'll fix it"

Beautiful garden in all means. I like the cosmos because it bears elegant flowers. Unfortunately I stopped growing it in my garden as the plants suddenly wilt and die while in flower. There must be something in my soil as I cannot grow pansies either. Luckily other plants grow happily.

That's a shame Costas, it does seem strange, the cosmos have lovely foliage as well as colourful flowers don't they. Is it too warm and dry in your garden.

That is lovely, homebird, and I like the way you have utilised the slope, with those steps..a lovely display area with the blue pots..superb planting too,and so much colour..credit to you and Mr lift it and shift it..Lol...I am lucky enough to have one of those too..:o)

Thankyou so much Bloomer the steps go down to the pond and need a bit of colour. A helpmate is worth their wait in gold aren't they Bloomer, until they stand on a favourite plant....or chop down the wrong tree.........T sawed my young plum tree down instead of the dying ceanothus next to it....... bless **** him. Took me an hour to get my breath back.....lol

They are,Homebird..but in the right place Lol. Mine tends to be a 'Hacker', not a pruner..I have despaired sometimes, when he has tackled something I needed help with..but credit due..they have all bounced back ,and looking good..so,it makes you wonder whether some careful pruning by us,makes much difference..!.I suppose it depends what it is..and whether it has to be done with supervision..:o)).My neighbours appreciate him,for the 'fix it' jobs too..my fault,as I often tell them he will..but he doesn't mind, bless him..!!

I couldn't manage without mine...but he has learned not to do anything without asking me several times, exactly how I want it, it's a result of 'coughing up' as he calls it...:))) but bless...he's worth his weight...as your H...is...
we're a team at the end of the day...lol...

Totally agree there,Crissue..and we tend to do most things together..but I garden, and OH washes up..!

8 Sep, 2011

Very nice Hb, love the cosmos you have there, and a beautiful garden

:))) We do too...Bloomer...case in point, OH is laying pavers in the turf, along by the chooks yard, so it's not soggy wet underfoot in Winter...and they have to be measured for my little feet, and not his plates of meat size 9's so I've done a trial walk, over three that have been laid so far, and I'll probably do the 'cat walk 'a few more times yet..till finished lol...+ the turf lifted is helping to fill the defunked side bed...And he does most of the Cooking...:)))

It's looking lovely Hb. Do you have any pics of the new summer house on here?

8 Sep, 2011

Glad you're both like us Crissue and Bloomer, nice to do things together. Just don't leave instructions and go out. Better to 'help' and observe!!!!
Thankyou Sl. the cosmos are from seeds saved from last year......easy peasie.
Thankyou Annella, it's only a small corner one but T has put it butt up to the shed and put a door through, boarded the shed further in and plumbed a toilet in for me in the space he has made. Saves me and the grandchildren running all the way down to the house...lol

8 Sep, 2011

That's a gorgeous view from your conservatory, Homebird! The cosmos is lovely, I must see if I have any seed ready yet, I grew the dwarf sonata variety this year and it did really well in the gales and wind and rain...lol!

Your garden is gorgeous as ever HB, I love your little summer house. Great you have it 'plumbed' in, my garden isn't big enough to worry about running back and forth :)
I think I've said this before but this is the kind of garden I could only dream of!

What a lovely private garden and so colourful! What would we do without our Conservatories eh Homebird?

9 Sep, 2011

Thankyou everyone for your very nice comments. I really would feel couped up if we didn't have the conservatory to sit in when the weather is poor. I am very lucky to have a handy hubby...... :o)

10 Sep, 2011

What can I say that hasn't been said already, Hb? ... Give yourselves a pat on the back for creating such a lovely garden ... and thank your lucky stars you're not married to a 'Barney Bodger' . . . :o)))

10 Sep, 2011

Lol Shirley.........I do..... My son-in-law is shockingly hopeless around the house and garden.....I love him dearly but he is the only person I know who can drill a hole in the wall and have to use a hammer to release the drill from the wall......
Thankyou so much....... :o)

Thank you so much Alan. It's a bit overgrown at the moment. I am hoping to get it sorted this weekend. It gives me a lot of pleasure.
