Even when I am working I can't resist buying plants.

I was driving along to my next call and what do you know….a new nursery has opened up and a big sign said Cheap Bedding Plants. Well, what can you do? You just have to call in don’t you. I executed an emergency stop, just like the one on my driving test and did a speedy U-turn. I remembered this place used to be a strawberry field some years ago where we often went, but had been closed down for several years. Mine was the only car in the car park and I thought they must be closed. A young man came outside and told me to come in. He said they only opened a couple of weeks ago and left me to browse.
There were the usual bedding plants but what really grabbed my attention as I turned a corner was the huge selection of penstemons, lobelia, geums, dianthus and hardy geraniums to name but a few. Some were a six pack of smaller plants and others were larger single plants .The prices ranged from £1.50 to £2.75. The 6 packs being £2.75 I didn’t know where to start……
Quickly calculating how much cash I had in my purse and including the pound coins, for parking and shopping trolleys in the ashtray in the car, I had £16 to spend. I set too and gathered up quite a few.
I planted them last night and will take more photo’s as they get to flowering well. Here are some of them now ……
Lobelia

Phygelius Aequalis Yellow Trumpet…..

Marigolds…..

I am glad now that I had to work this weekend………..

They are blue as they open Lulu. I will put a thick mulch over my Phygelius this winter and hope they survive this time.

Bargains...and in situ really quickly and looking the part too :)

I hope the people are successful in their new business; it's nice to have the option to go to small independent sellers rather than the big garden centres.

I agree Wlass, he was busy potting up and he had some plants that looked ready but he didn't want to sell them until they had settled into the new pots. I will be back for them in a couple of weeks...... He also had some baby dwarf rabbits for sale and they were so beautiful I wanted to get one. Maybe next time I go if they are still there.

Well done on the u-turn, you have some bargains there, I buy at the G.C. if I need bedding en-masse, or Morrisons, but when wanting a special for somewhere I prefer our local nurseries, although I do like a trip to Waterside.....

Thanks everyone, I too hope the centre is a success for the young man. He is working hard to get it going. I will be back there in a couple of weeks for some of the other plants he has just repotted.
