Work Resumeth

It has been busy here, and I am behind on my blogs…..so I will post them as intended…lol….and get back on track!

Rain has finally taken a breather, well at least till Friday. So work is back on schedule. When Waya (that’s my husbands name) came home from work, got a sandwich and a Pepsi, we then got started….first measure and cut the OSB.

Then the boards get stood up and I get to put the primer on.

Opps! Accidents happen and get repaired…

So now a break…..

Couldn’t resist taking this ones pic

From different angles

And back to painting

Tomorrow we build and hang the doors that will give us access to the water system under the back of the house…….Follow ups to come!

Is "Waya" southern for "Wayne" or what?! Made good progress there.

11 Nov, 2009

Waya is Cherokee for Wolf ...but we didn't get to work on the doors, cause we are getting rain now from that hurricane (Ida I think) coming up from the gulf!

<sigh>

Always drawn to wolf tribe (men, most often). Tho personally I resonate more with red tailed hawks & otters... Just live in the desert a season and you will bless every drop of rain. The Hopis call the corn husk and rain clouds both "kachina" for the blessing of their ancestors coming to nourish the people, and when you see those tall high clouds moving in they do look like powerful intercessors.

11 Nov, 2009

Orgatis...we lived in the high alpine desert of the San Luis Valley of Colorado for 18 mo. We had no electricity, no running water...very rural, very rustic. It is beautiful and stark all at the same time! I know what you mean about the power in the clouds, and i know the disappointment of watching them sail past!

=^..^=

12 Nov, 2009

But close to the hot springs! Know that area fairly well. Those dark fingers of clouds like a tatter shawl reaching to touch the earth, which is so hot that it pushes the rain away: vergas? Is that the word? Maryland must be a big change.

12 Nov, 2009

Maryland is where I grew up...so not so much a change as Colorado was. But I am in Delaware now...which is all flat and at sea level with a lot more humidity. Even the aluminum siding on the trailer grows a green slimy mold from it! ick!!

As for the hot springs...I didn't know they were close, thought they were north and some west over Wolf Creek Pass...??? We were only there 18 months, so didn't see as much as we would have liked. Plus we had to haul all our water and heated with wood, so had to gather about 9 cords of wood...that is hard in a desert (had to go into the mountains for it sometimes) so we didn't have alot of time to sight see

12 Nov, 2009

Colorado koan: Chop water, haul wood. There's a semi-private hot springs in Villa Grove, Valley View H.S. The ground temp of that whole valley is warm due to the underground thermals. I had friends in Crestone.

12 Nov, 2009

Crestone was in the valley, but way north of us, never got there....hubby seems to think the closest hot springs were in Pagoda Springs, over Wolf Creek Pass, but I dunno....lol

12 Nov, 2009

It's wonderful to hear you both talking about the USA. Coming from the UK, I don't think we really appreciate just HOW big America is and the varying temperatures and climates that you can get. :~))

12 Nov, 2009

The US is VAST, Sue, and the nature of the people varies widely from the East coast, southern still confederate, midwest heartland, the Rockies, the deserts and mountains of the SW, and the West. California is a planet all by itself! My sense is that those who pioneered west eventually integrated more with the Native American (Indian, sic) cultures and have more daring-do than Easterner "city folk", which is more densely populated even in rural areas with more sense of history and "old families" like the UK. What do you think, HW?

13 Nov, 2009

I do tend to agree, with a few exceptions...even though I am an easterner...I would love to have stayed where it is far less populated, but family duty calls, and we answer. And there are many like me....You tend to wander also OG!

One of the of traits that still shows itself in personalities here is the 'itchy' foot...and America is vast enough to sooth it for most! California...I will get there yet...never seen the pacific!

=^..^=

13 Nov, 2009

Seems like you could live a lifetime and never see it all :~)

13 Nov, 2009

Too true, and then there's the call of the pipes, to Scotland, Wales, Ireland, even the Midlands and Yorkshire LoL! I am fortunate to have wandered and lived in some magical places, leaving gardens behind that I never get to enjoy in their ripening fullness. The search for fertile tilth & favorable climes, as well as kind and conscious people....Perhaps I will find a home with an already established garden here. My parents are both ailing, but so darn independent they don't want my help! I tried to get my mom to move to Florida for 10 years, but she won't budge out of Chicago (& I can't live there with only a balcony to plant!).

13 Nov, 2009

If your Mom and Dad are elderly, and have lived in Chicago for a long time, I can understand them not wanting to 'upsticks'. Too much upheaval. Do you think you will settle where you are, or are the feet still itchy ?:~)
