Hi, glad you liked Harry’s photo, he is a French Bulldog, wonderful companion. The Tulip tree seems to have suffered a bit this year, the leaves turned yellow and dropped but after a good watering its picked up and I hope it flowers again. Last year was its first time, its about 3yrs old and had about 20 blooms. Our garden near Frinton on sea Essex ,is solid clay so we have trial and error planting.Sometimes we are flooded and the next its all cracking open! We put in a lake to get rid of too much lawn ,its about 10yrs old and the last two years it has been “pea soup” colour. We put 3 bales of barley in but hasn’t made any differance, any suggestions? It dosnt seem to upset the fish.

Welcome 'Harry' to our friendly gardening community. What a lovely charcter Harry is -we love the photo of him!
With all best wishes and happy gardening.....
With regards to the 'pea soup' in your large pond -is the area exposed to strong sunlight which might be the cause of the problem, and is the area well planted with water plants with lots of marginal plants?.Aquatic plants will often help to clear the water as they will feed on the high levels of Nitrite and Nitrate which can quickly build up. Is the pond fed by tap water or a natural supply? If its tap water it might also contribute to the problem due to the high levels of nutrients in the water.
There are lots of factors, but constant exposure to strong sunlight is often a major issue that causes the water to turn green. Do you have a filtration system?... A good filter will also help to break down the bacteria, and if there is movement in the water this might help as well.A water fall or a return pipe from a large filter will help to put in some oxygen. Hope this helps to resolve your problem....
Best wishes,
Grenville and Alan.

Hi, grenville and Alan, thankyou for the quick reply!
Its a huge lake with lots of water lillies and oxygenating plants and we have an air pump for water movement untill the waterfall is finished. We did have two large trees on the island in the middle of the pond but they died and we have replaced them but they are not that big yet .So I think thats the problem!! theres not enough shade yet! thankyou

It sounds like the lake needs some shade, so its a matter of time before those trees give a protective canopy and some shade. Do post up some photos of the lake when you have time- it sounds wonderful.
Best wishes and happy gardening.

By the way, people usually call me Spritz - in case our dog reads the message and thinks it's for him! (He's very clever you know - LOL)
