bad year here too, potatoe blight, tomatoes all blighted, carrotts rubbish, runner beans great, courgettes rubbish, cucumber [outdoor] again rubbish, broccalli holding on, spring greens seem to be growing, garlic so so, all in all a rotten year

I bought a couple of cannas in the packets and was very disappointed, one never appeared, and the other just made 4 leaves, I'm hoping it will do better next year

my seed collecting from my last garden got out of hand, now I'm going to throw a lot of it in pots and just see what comes up.

thanks, I can still see far too much dirt out there, the grass seed has started to grow to cover up the bare patches, now if I can just persuade my dog that the flowerbeds are not for walking on

The chilli plant is looking good, I'm on a learning curve with the veg garden, just transplanted my spring cabbage, which I hope will give me some success, the brocalli has been attacked by caterpillars:(

Can someone please tell my dog it's good to chase cats out of the garden, he usually just sits and looks at them :(

I grew some last year and left them out all winter and they were fine, and got off to a good start in the spring

I love the astrantias, they never grew well in my last garden, but here they are really taking off

It's a very satisfying feeling when you achieve something like that, it's looking really good, what other plants are you putting in

favourites for this time of year are cosmos, rudbeckia, helenium and penstemons

interesting to see how your succeeded, I started with good intentions, but after the cats had done a good job mixing the seeds up and the slugs had eaten most of the seedlings that did survive I gave up on the idea and just used blocks and rows, I think I'm going to give it another try next year, and make sure I don't have the same problems

love these 2 shrubs, I had mature ones in my last garden, they always looked good, I've had to start with small ones again

Grindle

I've just bought this plant, do you find it an easy shrub?

Grindle

all the borders that have been put in I've been able to dig them over well, a hard job as it's very stony, but I have noticed the plants that have been put in are doing much better than my last garden, I think the ground is pretty fertile here.
Spritz love the colour combi. I'm trying to get trees and shrubs establised first then I will move perennials into their final planting positions, it's nice at the moment just to have anything growing here.
Peter, don't you just hate builders rubbish :(

I'd like to see your garden 'open' too. Nice plants you have growing, didn't do many annuals this year, although the cornflowers and godetia have done well, I think I lost most of my hardy annuals to rain/slugs this year.

I agree spritzhenry, it was a great day out. I go every year, wouldn't miss it

the last of the heavy work has been completed, and I now have a pond to add to things that have been done, finally got the last of the borders marked out, all I have to do now is find the right plants

sorry spritzhenry, been busy trying to get the garden in shape. Yes we went too, although I must admit there weren't as many nurseries attending as in past years, maybe that was due to the bad summer weather. Still, managed to fill the car up though. Now I have to wait for the Spring show at Malvern.
