Oh Grandmarge I did the same last night. We have waited for the rain for so long haven't we? Not to find the snails but to fill the water butt!! lol I to in my Pj's and umbrella - what a sight ha ha ha went out, was a little disappointed that I only found 4 snails though. I too lobbed them over next doors fence as they don't clear away their weeds- the snails could have a good life eating there weeds without having to bother me again!!!

They'll come back grandmage, especially if you have lots of succulent goodies in your garden. Great, Im sure they prefer lovely young seedlings to weeds.
I used to take a deep breath, take aim and chop them in half with a hoe.

Just to clear up a point and not to get me in any trouble, we have an overgrown garden at the back of us which also backs onto a derelict field so I am not being mean to anyone really, and yes they will come back, oneday, someone told me they take two years to get back, not sure where they got that from !! lucky for my hostas though.

Years ago, a gardening magazine published a story of a man whose garden was over-run with snails. He painted a number on each snail he found, from 1 onwards, when he reached 100 ( in a short space of time) he took them in a sack to the local woods. One by one, they returned to his garden, so, "come in, number 37, your time is up" springs to mind !
