BORED! Hence this blog!

Its still too bloomin wet to do anything here, so on the way to B&Q this morning we went via Morries and had our breakfast there, very nice & tasty, then on to the DIY store to pick up some masonary pain that we needed for my gardening man to use tomorrow, weather permitting. Now in the large DIY store we wandered around looking for projects to do, for when the sun shines you understand! Nothing excited us, so we picked up the paint and walked to the till and there was something that caught my eye!

These brilliant bags, are very heavy duty and strong, they even have handles for carrying, size= W=400mm, H=410mm, D=350mm. I thought they would be terrific for planting up your, carrot seeds, potatoes, salad crops even tomatoes! brilliant, make some holes in the bottom and fill with compost and away you go……..wait for it, they were only 25p. each, bargain, I am going to sew carrot seeds in mine and thought I would pass on this tip……………hang on the sun is out, I’m off outside for a while, yipee. Back now, its clouded over & its still too wet, but have sewn carrots & radishes. :~) I reckon too that these bags would be good for compost if your space is limited!

Great Mark, thought that for 25p, if they only lasted a season, was a good buy!

8 May, 2012

but you can't buy anything for 25p nowadays, hope they have them next time we go,

8 May, 2012

Hi Yorks, they are selling them by the tills, presumably to use as shopping bags like they do at Morries. But I just had this thought because i got a similar green bag from the £1 and planted that with carrotts but for 25p, this is even better.

would it do for planting potatoes in G/M

8 May, 2012

Why not! I think its deep enough, I would give it a go, you will need to make holes in the bottom first. The bags dimensions are H=410mm W=400mm D=350mm sorry its metric! I'll put these measurements into the blog.

Cant go wrong really Gee.

breakfast sounds nice

It would also be good for collecting weeds dug up from my flower bed. I need something that isn't too big or I can't lift it. ;o)

Yes good idea Linda, or maybe in the shed full of old pots or use it to store the recycling bits. :~)

8 May, 2012

I would store my recycling in that. Bigger and better - and cheaper - than what I use now.

8 May, 2012

Great bargains and nice to have somewhere to sew your vegetable seeds.

We've had a lovely day - lots of warm sunshine and a nice breeze :o)

My recycling goes to the skips in truck loads!!!
I got one of these a couple of years ago, fab! I'm going to put my tumbling toms in it this year.
Brekky sounds good!

Hi Grandmage.
Great ideas with the multi-purpose bags :o)

8 May, 2012

Hi Oji, they are really strong and tough so would do a good job. Hywel, these are so cheap, I reckon if B&Q knew what we are up to they would put their prices up!! Its still been very wet here but a little warmer. Lou how come you make so much junk then?? Lol. Would like to see your toms growing in one of these! and yes thanks brekky was good.
Cheers TT. we like to pass on good ideas here on Goy. dont we?

Excellent and would also be great just as boot liner on GC trips! :)

8 May, 2012

Certainly would Karen, another good idea.

I love that a 25p carrier bag makes us all happy :)) good thing about this for carrots is you can lift it up out of reach of carrot fly. Strawbs would do well in there as well.

8 May, 2012

I agree Paul, I'm sure you could use one of these bags in your greenhouse!
Pim. we just love a bargain dont we? I also agree about the carrot fly thing too, last year I started to grow carrots up on our deck in a tall bag and the carrots were delicious, a great success, so when I saw this bag and its price (last bag cost me a £1 in £1 shop) I thought well why waste money, I'm sure this system will work. Strawbs would be good, maybe even sweet peas with sticks in four corners and tied wigwam style! Great for folk with just a balcony!
