Unkempt garden's

Not really a gardening fan for many years, I found that once the children had flown the coop and my other half was thinking that the grass was greener elsewhere….
Suddenly the garden became my responsibility……At the time I could do nothing about it as I was a 24/7 carer for my mum who had been bedridden for 9 of the 11 years I cared for her………..She passed away in 2000 and I then started to lead a life of debauchery…….. :0) Catching up on so many things I had missed out on as a very young mum, and in general having a thoroughly good time……..
But at some point you have to start to act responsibly again….(what a pity )
So now in my 60’s I plan to tackle the garden………..bring it back to its former glory.
If possible………….
Last year I lost two tree’s my Coxes Pippin and my Victoria Plum….they both had rot in their trunks and had become unstable……….The Cox had not been good for a number of years, but the Plum was still fruiting prolifically although it looked really sick………….
My garden is made up of mainly shrubs, a lot of which I don’t know the names of
but my pride and joy is my Acer ‘pix to follow when I can get a clear day’ and I have three hollies two Hybrids and one Traditional……………
I would love to gravel the back garden and just have pots but leaving an area of soil and grass for Pooch-face to grub around in. Trouble is I live on a hill and it would take so much soil to level it……………
My constant companion is my rather spoiled Jack Russell ‘Jilly’ and her sometimes side kick ‘Shadow’ my elder sons black lab…………….
More to follow…………….
When I said more to follow I was hoping it would be positive news, unfortunately the results of my MRI scan weren’t good and I have to see a Spinal Surgeon and here was me thinking I would be able to put my garden to rights now I am not in as much pain…….Oh well c’est la vie …
And also was hoping that August was going to be as forecast, a fine month, But its precipitating down here as bad as ever :0(

I find shrubs easy to look after.
I don't think I'd know when I reached the point to act responsibly. Maybe I've gone past it without knowing. lol

So right S.girl. I spent so many years being responsible for one person or another. Now it's just me and my garden - and Sophie of course.
Like you Goldie I only really began gardening seriously in my 60's - and what a great time I'm having. If I feel like digging up the entire lawn, well I can.
Jilly looks lovely.

Hi Goldie! Welcome from me. too! It's a good age - we can misbehave if we want to, choose what we do each day (Usually) and not live by the clock! How good is that? lol.

Just catching up with your blogs, Goldie. I wonder if you know the poem by Jenny Jospeh 'When I am old I shall wear purple'. I've got it hanging on my wall so that I don't get too staid and respectable :)

I like that poem, Gee! I agree with the sentiments, too...

Goldie, please stick to 'Spritz'...Henry is my dog, and he's so clever that he thinks you're talking to him! LOL.
