A Gardener at last?

As this was rather a sad day because of saying goodbye to Beano I asked a friend if she would like to go out for an early dinner.
Our food arrived and whilst eating I noticed that she kept looking at my plate.
‘Would you like to try mine’ I asked.
‘Oh I’m not looking at your dinner, I’m looking at your hands – well, your nails actuall;y’.
‘Why’?
‘Because they are absolutely disgraceful, I’ve never seen you with such awful nails, and hands too.’
Well, I looked and had to admit she was right, they are indeed awful. But guess what, I really don’t care. Could I have become a real gardener at last?

LOL - Oh Ginellie, you should see mine! And I don't care, either!

I'm so glad I am not the only one with 'disgraceful' hands and nails then. So, since I'm not auditioning for a nail varnish promotion anytime soon I think I'll just keep digging.

I do try to garden with my gloves on, honestly, but I can't get the tiny weeds out so they come off! Then I forget to put them on again. :-(

And then there's sunglasses. I have mine on my head all the time, but bending down to weed they slide forwards and so I just put them down - somewhere. I find them all over the garden, which is why I buy loads of them at Charity Shops and I can see out of most of them.

Lol, that's funny! I have always had bad nails in general as never wear gloves to wash up and such like. After a rough and ill summer I treated myself to a french manicure and was so chuffed until 3 hours later my well overdue plant order arrived and on went the old gardening gloves to plant stuff. There's more dirt in them than outside! My nails were ditched! Oh well! Plants last much longer and to be honest cheer me up for longer than a manicure too!

I'm sorry you had to say bye to Beano though. I didn't want to seem insensitive with my last post x

Yes Ginellie, you're a gardener. I'm with you Spritz - I go out with all good intentions and new gloves and soon they're lying neglected on a pathway somewhere while I'm up to my armpits in compost! Then, when I do keep them on, I wear out the tips against all the stones and rocks we have to contend with here, so I'm back to square one again! Oh well, never did like being hampered with long scratchy nails!

Best wishes to Beano and his new home. What lovely memories you'll have of him knowing how much you helped.

Well done on helping Beano recover and move on to a happy new home.
Good luck to you and your "real gardener's finger nails" Lol

Ithink all gardeners nails look horrible, but like all you lot, i'm not bothered, hope Beano as settled in his new home.

I can't wear garden gloves and I can't get my hands and nails clean for days after being in the garden. I don't think anybody notices because I'm a man.

I think you're right there Hywel. I had the worst time trying to keep my nails and hands clean while working as a mechanic. When you are female, people expect clean, well groomed hands no matter what you do for a living. It's really not fair..

It's a man's world - but only sometimes. I speak from experience. :o)
