Generally, it has large clusters of flowers covering the whole tree. This is a bignonia tree...which means it is in the bignoniaceae family which includes such genera as: Markhamia, Spathodea, Kigelia, Jacaranda and Tabebuia.
The drawback about this tree/shrub it can be invasive.

Very pretty tree and flowers. I like the way they are composed together in a circle and one in the centre.

I have one posted from the previous pictures at San Diego State University.
This tree was on private property and the Australian brush cherry (Syzygium paniculatum) hedge was blocking the lower part of this tree.
