Janey - I have been sat here looking at this tree for a week now. When will your next photo arrive?

Hi There, I have one of these near to my pond, only about 4 feet high at the moment but nice to see a good photo of how they establish. I have actually seen one growing in water, although this shot proves they will grow without lots of water

You're right Sid...it is the Swamp Cypress the gardener at Normanby has just emailed!

I think maybe yours will be a smaller type KK, but will still be very lovely once established.

I will email the gardener there and ask her.

I went outside at 10.40pm and brought my Japanese cedar inside to make a comparison. I still can't say for certain either way. If I had to say one way or the other I would guess this is a different variety of cedar to my youngster but would not place much credence to my judgement on it.

Janey this looks fabulous - I really must find out what it is for certain. Is there anyone at the house that could tell us do you think?

Thanks for the lovely photo Janey - I hope the Japanese cedar in my photo is the same in many years time but doubt whether I will get to see mine grow this big. Next time you visit this tree friend perhaps you could enquire how old the tree is thought to be, I'd love to know. You posting this picture has been very helpful to me. However as I was not expecting it to grow so big I am now even more uncertain where to plant it.

Sure looks like it could be Janey...goodness it is a large tree...the bark and the twist of the wood reminds me of the sort we have here.

Think it's Bog Cypress, Janey. They go very orangy in the autumn. One of the only trees that will survive with its roots submerged in water and one of the ony deciduous conifers - if that is what it is that is!

Or could it be Taxodium distichum (spelling?) Bog Cypress anyway! I'm not familier with Jap. Ceder.
