Sometimes it is possible for a plant to sprout a shoot that is different to the rest of the plant. I don't know what causes it but the shoot that is diferent is called a "sport". Fuchsias can do it and people have taken cuttings of the sport and grown them on to produce named varieties in their own right. There is one Fuchsia called "Swingtime" and it grew a sport that had golden leaves. This was grown on to produce a variety called "Golden Swingtime".

That was ME Buzzbee, and I added the comment about hard pruning to let you know that mine was OK! Glad yours is too. I shall have a go at my 'Goldflame' next year, as well.

That's a relief - I took someone else's advice to prune our S j 'Anthony Waterer' hard - can't recall who - but it has grown back well and looks ready to give us blooms soon - suggesting that sometimes in gardening you really have to do some drastic stuff to make good things happen, but that doesn't stop it being scary when you do it for the first time.

Mine are budded up and just about ready to pop into bloom...I guess we are not as far behind as I thought. A few days of hot weather and we catch up quickly... : )

from a distance they're a mass...a little closer and they're small five petalled flowers...but right up close they're downright exotic...great shot as usual!

I have a couple of other varieties too, this one is a recent purchase. I'd spotted it in a garden I passed one day and decided I had to have one too! Have successfully grown new plants from cuttings before so I'm trying to raise some from this to put in my front garden.

One of my favorite shrubs, I bet I have at least five different varieties of this shrub and at least three of each variety, can't get enough of these beautiful, long blooming, tough as nails, low maintaince shrubs !...lol

In early spring, just as new growth begins, cut back to a low framework (as for buddleias). If you want a larger bush, just trim it lightly

Aren't they wonderful? I remember my Grandmothers garden...these shrubs lived and bloomed for YEARS. I love spirea and have some of the colourful dwarf var.
