Such a popular plant this year. I had one once-upon-a-time but it died unfortunately. I now feel inspired to try again.

I love these but I never seem to be able to grow them.
This one is a rich colour.

These were being swamped by the White Comfrey, Blodyn, so last week I replanted them in the bed when I removed the Comfrey. Not a good time to move them I know, but they stand a better chance now. The rain and kind temperatures we have had since may help.

You're very fortunate to have these looking so good. I've got tyrannical sparrows who pick all the heads off mine leaving a trail all the way up to their nests!!!

I know when I bought it several years ago the spike said something primrose but I don't remember the exact name and can't find the label. You are probably right. I like having a posh plant at my front door!

Thanks Janette - it's the bit of the garden I always head for to see what progress is being made! I can't wait for the hosts to come up to soften the edges further. I need to get some oxygenating pond weed and push in some nasturtian seeds and then I can leave it alone! Sarah.

nice to see the flow of current photos starting. I know it's not polite to whine but I do wish we would get some spring here. I'm finding it hard to be patient...:{

Thanks both. I've looked it up and defo D. obconica. I don't know if it is the hairy one - I'll examine it! I rather hope it is 'Twilly Touch Me', not least because I find the name most amusing!!
On question - What is this plant?
16 Mar, 2008
In my thompson and Morgan seed catalogue it shows a picture of my plant that it calls a Primula Obconica Twilly Touch Me F1 hybrid and says "Bushy, free flowering plants in a stunning mixture of 12 strong colours, including many bicolours. Unlike other Primula obconica varieties, Twilly Touch Me is primine free, so causes no skin irritation. This makes it ideal for growing as an attractive glasshouse or indoor pot plant. Height: 25-30cm (10-12 inches)." Hope that helps!
On question - What is this plant?
15 Mar, 2008
Definitely Primula obconica. Be careful if it has fine hairs on the backs of the leaves - as Hazel says, they cause irritation for some people.
On question - What is this plant?

It looks like a plant I bought for myself about two months ago, Primula obconica. If so, it should be very happy on a cold windowsill or greenhouse. Mine said it had been bred to not have the usual problem with the leaves causing irritation, which is good to know....

It is becoming more widely celebrated in North America now too. Happy Women's Day, however belated. What lovely colours I found pictures of the California primulas with their tall nodding flower heads.wish I could grow them as perennials. most primula are annuals here but some do show sufficient hardiness to overwinter for a second year. ...in the lower righthand corner just below the primula leaf I see another little frond reaching up. it looks familiar but I'm wondering what it actually is...can you help me? I enjoy your pictures of a part of Europe that is relatively unknown to me... read your blog about conifers with interest.
This is a terrific site isn't it?

What a lovely color combination. I've always wanted to grow these, but haven't found them in any nurseries around here. How long do they bloom ?

This is an intriguing flower. I believe it's a type of primula. Sadly I can't find any here in Hungary to buy.

ohhhh you grow primroses! I love those little beauties. I have one same colour as yours and one that is all yellow... I'm going to have to remove them to another spot..they didn't do as well as I had hoped last summer. I want to naturalize them in with spurge and blue violets.. I can't wait til the snow goes...it's still about two feet deep out there.
