Sorry, Philip, but is it a Stipa or a Miscanthus? These are separate genus.

It is a Stipa it spans about 8 feet and about 10 feet to the top of the flower spikes.

The flowers look like Stipa gigantea, but the leaves look different to the one in my garden - these ones stand up more.....???? (But then, nextdoor's cat has been attacking mine!)

This is nice. I love to see grasses setting off other plants. My favourite spots in my garden always include grasses.
