Update - I found the seed packet, and this one is Gaillardia aristata 'Burgundy'.

Yes, these survive, and we get fairly harsh winters. I wish I would have saved the seed packet so I knew which exact type they are! I started them sometime before 2001, which is when I started a journal (so nothing noted unfortunately). I did get them for the all red color, which I love in the garden. : )

You are most welcome! I am glad I could help. I have way too many unknowns in my garden from the prior owners and when I just bought what I liked and didn't keep track. Now I am frustrated by those gaps too.

This is a lovely colour. I know they are supposed to be perennials but do you find thet they survive the winter? Mine always seem to die after one season.

Do I see a hint of yellow around the edges? I have one that looks a bit like it called "Burgandy" but it doesn't have the yellow edges. I find mine start out small the first year and get larger and denser the next.

Gaillardia is a perennial over here...so I'm pretty sure it will be perennial in your climate...My camera has started doing strange stuff with colours must be uv filtres...

Hello Swampy
The best way to propogate this plant is by root division which you should do in early spring say march you will find once you expose the rootball that its fairly easy to divide.
Hope this helps
best wishes
Kev

it' not a true pink Lori, it may just be the lighting on my camera, its more a redy orange, sometimes a bit burgandy - especially as it fades. and as far as i know it is perennial. but i don't have the variety name to check it Spritz.

Thanks Greenfingers. From what I see on this site there are lots of people who have an amazing collection of plants. I often wish that I had some of the ones that others have too, I guess this site sets up wants in all of us.

Cuckoo spit is most likely. If you look insdie you will see a tiny greeni nsect. Removal is easy, either wipe off with your fingers and squish the bug or wash of with a jet of water and watch the thing die of sunburn.
On question - foamy substance on Gaillardia

I bought this at a local garden centre in Veresegyhaz, Hungary, and it did not have an English name on it!!!! From my research on the Internet I think you are right. It certainly looks like "Arizona Sun". Thanks for prompting me to identify it accurately.
