The first crocus appearing shows that spring is on its way! This genus of 80 species of perennials are good grown in drifts in beds, pots or turf. The colours come in a range of yellow, purple, lilac and white.
For spring-flowering varieties, plant bulbs in autumn but remember to keep an eye on them… and over zealous squirrel, rabbit or rodent will quickly dig them up!
The most expensive spice in the world also comes from the crocus genus. Saffron has been a sought after ingredient for decades. It takes about 65,000 crocuses to yield just 1 pound of saffron.

I love crocus and this little guy is just stunning! Our botanical garden pulls them off every year, but they have cold storage. Not sure if the bulbs'll come through our -40 winter out alone. Beautiful

Yes I like these pots. We found them in a supermarket in Romania. Guess what they were really cheap too. I've not seen any like this in any other country. On our travels we often shop in Romania, Slovakia,or Serbia. These are all places we drive to regularly from Hungary.

I don't know; he was a nice stranger helping us poor women out. Last time I saw him he was headed for a nearby bar!(Our version of a pub!) Probably needed reinforcment by then!

Has the poor person recovered yet? I suppose you won't know, unless you catch him again next time you want a rock! ;-)
