I have just discovered the “Sky” pictures. Gorgeous! Can I add one of my own? This strange “cotton bud” cloud formation flew over one afternoon last year, and was the precursor to the scirocco. It looked as though the sky was boiling. Not sure how, but all the neighbours seemed to know it was on its way, despite not having been mentioned on the weather forecast. The sky turned yellow and in it whipped, quite warm, not to say hot, and did a fair bit of damage, but nothing like the tail end of the hurricane all you back in the UK have been experiencing a week or so back. It lasted three days. A pile of garden debris waiting for the bonfire season, and a few articles of laundry ended up in Gianni’s field below our garden, and the cats went mad – rushing round the garden and leaping in the air, ears laid back, climbing the curtains and trees. It was almost literally as if they had “the wind up their tails”.

I certainly haven't experienced a scirocco! My cat goes very skittish when it's windy but that sounds much more extreme.
When I was in Suffolk last week the sky had very strange patterns in it, similar shape to yours but in a dark grey sky, like wet finger marks on a newly painted sheet of paper.
