Ha ha, don't you believe it OG. I've tried them off a tree...big mistake!! They need to be soaked in brine for weeks...I expect the internet will have info...but don't bite one off the tree...honestly, you'll think you've been poisoned!! I had my family in hysterics in Cyprus..."oh look, olives on the tree, they look good enough to eat..." aye, that'll be right....:S

Thanks for warning, but already tried it with the same effect as you descibe. However, some are starting to turn red, but will have to give the brine idea a go.

I wonder if there are articles on the net that tell you how to cure them...bet there are..I don't think it would make any difference if they were red or green, they will still need curing.

Karen I have found a useful site on preparing olives. It all makes sence now, as you said I have to pickle them first in brine, they are ready to eat after about 5 weeks. Looks like olives ready for Christmas!

we have an olive tree that bears fruit but they only get to pea size then drop off.

These are about the size of the small ones you can buy. So far they are holding on to the tree, I have now brought them into the conservatory. Don't trust our climate this time of the year.
