I don't think that I've ever seen this many different pumkins. It looks really lovely.

Hi Linda,
There were several more varieties than those shown here --they were piled up all around. They appeared to be selling well, and there was even a little recipe book you could buy for 50p.

These must have been grown in glasshouse surely......

Hi Linda,
To be honest, I don't know. The yard where they are displayed is surrounded by flint walls so you can't see any further and I didn't think to ask! I should imagine you are right, however, at least for some of them. I'll ask next year!!

I had no idea these kind of pumpkin farms existed in the UK. They have them in many locations in Canada and the US and make displays as this farm has done.

Have you visited the same place this year, PFarthing? I do love a pumpkin pie and my daughter has located some tinned pumpkin for me here in the UK so that will save me the work of peeling and cooking from a fresh pumpkin.

Have you cooked with pumpkin?

They had some huge ones down the road for sale for about £2.50

Linda...in my experience the bigger pumpkins do not always make for the best baking although they would be ok in soups.

My daughter has brought the tinned pumpkin to me today so I know what I'll be doing this week :) Yummy pumpkin pie. A work colleague found that Waitrose/Okado sold the tinned pumpkin and I'm not in possession of 4 tins!

Hello Whistonlass,
No, I haven't been to Slindon yet this year but I intend to! Sadly, the man who began growing and displaying the pumpkins has died but I think the family is keen to continue. One of them told me last year that none of them has the same enormous knowledge of pumpkin cultivation as their father/grandfather but they would have a go! I'm interested to see whether they have succeeded! They also produced a little recipe book with lots of pumpkin recipes and advice on the most suitable pumpkin for each.

I was interested to read about your great garden clearance and wonder how it's going and what you intend to plant.
Regards,
Penny

whistonlass, you'll have to order on line, a boxful to be home delivered...LOL. Hope the pie turns out well. You'll have to put the recipe up for us. x

Thanks for your interest in my garden project, Penny. I'll blog as things progress so you could keep watch there. I have a list that goes on forever of things I'd like in my garden but it definitely needs refining! lol

I definitely need climbers (rambling rose, cotoneaster, clematis for a start, I have plenty of ivy!!). I'd like a small water feature which I'd plant around and a rockery. Heuchera will definitely have a place and I have some lovely iris coming in the spring thanks to Tetrarch :).

lol Linda about the pumpkin by the case. My daughter came yesterday and brought 4 cans of the pumpkin so I'll be making a pumpkin pie very soon and yes, I'll post the recipe.

I hope the pumpkin patch is successful for the late-man's family.
