Pseudopanax ferox - 2018

A weird tree from New Zealand. These toothed leaves have evolved to be unplatable to the flightless birds that live there; when the tree gets out of their reach, the foliage becomes broader.
Grows up to fifteen feet in a sunny, sheltered position in humus-rich soil. Protect from cold winds. Allegedly only hardy to -5c, this came through -8C on several nights in the winter of 2010/11.

That must be 15 ft now Andrew.......ours is quite slow, thinking of moving it if it is going to grow that big! it's in the front of the border!!
