Pineapple Broom
Genus: Cytisus.
Species: Cytisus battandieri.
There are three of these being grown between the birches for evergreen winter interest. They will lose their leaves in very cold spells, but recover well and flower in summer. The flowers smell like pineapple. They need pruning immediately after flowering...just as the flowers are fading. If you don't prune them, the stems become long and straggly. There is also a fence trained one on the back fence between the birches.
