Winter

Its March the 15th and we still have snow when will this Winter ever end? 10days ago the last or what I thought was the last finally went. Each day the weather got warmer my winter shrubs were in flower and the primulars snowdrops snowflakes and crocus came out, with them came the bees and a lonely butterfly so I thought finally Spring is here but on Wednesday night everything changed and a blizzard arrived. With it came a howling 60mph wind that kept me awake half the night and yet more snow. The temp dropped from 14 deg to -6 overnight and last night I lost half the seedlings ive had in the cold frame for the past 2 wks. Thankfully I saved my Dahlia tubers as at 1.30am I got out of bed and with 1 dog (the other had more sense) and a torch we set off up the garden in the snow and wind to the cold frame and brought all 12 of them in. It took 3 trips but it was worth it as I cld then go back to bed and sleep easy. Am I crazy? I dont think so but I know if my Husband was here he wld definately think so. Today the wind was still howling but thankfully no more snow and in some places where it hadnt drifted I cld see grass again. I pray that this is the last as the blossom on some of my fruit trees is close to opening and I dont want to loose all my fruit like last year and in 2 wks the Storks arrive so its Fingers Crossed.

Sorry to hear you lost all those seedlings. It must be so disappointing for you.
I don't think you're crazy doing what you did to save your dahlias. I would have done the same.

Not crazy galest .....what's half an hour in the dead of night and freezing weather to save your plants that you've painstaking nurtured? I hope you soon warmed up when you got back to bed. And now you'll have the joy of seeing your seedlings come to fruition in the next fewmonths.....hopefully you wont have to have any similar trips out in the middle of the night!

Your not crazy, dahlias are always saving! The weather is depressing. We are just getting snow flurries here but thankfully it hasn't been settling. The other day there was bright sunshine with blue skies and yet it was snowing at the same time. Weird weather!

I think we are all crazy galest, the things we do for our gardens, blood sweat and tears included :)
This weather is very frustrating not to mention depressing, We jetwashed one of our decking areas yesterday in the freezing icy cold, now, thats mad but it felt good when it was finished :)

Thanks for all yr support and telling me im not crazy. I think we gardeners will do virtually anything for our gardens, something non gardeners can never understand.
Ive just had 3 days in the garden where it was sunny but a very cold wind however nothing a coat scarf and gloves wont sort out. It was lovely to be outside and seeing life coming back into the garden but today Sunday 24th March we are now under snow again and the forcast is for more snow over the next 5 days. At the moment tho im more concerned about a Stork that arrived early as its sat in its next with no shelter from the snow - I do hope it survives ok.

Yeah, it's been pretty bleak everywhere.
Starting to think I 'll meet Eskimo Nell soon.
Who said "He should be so lucky!"? Flippin' cheeky. Lol.
Hope your visiting stork is okay.
No, Mouldy, don't go for the obvious cheap laugh. Give the others a chance. Be noble.
