Hi Janette , I,ve just spent ages checking my" teach yourself computers" book , and it seems that with frequent updating and deleting of files they end up being split into separate fragments and stored itty-bitty in different places on the hard disc. this can slow things down . apparently we should run the Disc defragmenter at least monthly ,
I,m to tired to study how to do that tonight I will have another look at it tomorrow .

I,m glad i,m not the only one that has problems , my husband dosn,t want to know , I feel a bit lost with it sometimes !

I'm glad someone else's computers have been slow. I thought there was something wrong with mine. It's so slow these last few days I get fed up and just switch it off.

my computer used to do this all the time.. I switched to Opera and have had no trouble since,,Internet explorer was full of pop ups, no matter how many times i blocked them they still got through,..They slowed my computer down to Stop :))) Drove me Potty..

Well to defragment go to All prorammes in start up menu
click system tools then disk defragmenter. It takes a while doesnt affect existing files just the bits left over from add ons etc.

In google try tools symbol click and then click clean up internet history cookies etc. If you have an anti virus programme such as Norton you can use this to clean up old files and dont forget to empty recycle bin of stuff you dont need.

Also clearing out old e mails may help.Despite all this there are times when internet use very heavy and response times slower as a result.Hope this helps

Hi Amy I'm with BT internet and have had problems this last 4 - 5 days.
It's realy annoying when your enjoying catching up with what everyone on GOY has been up to.

go to my computer and see how much of your hard drive is full. the more stuff on it the longer it takes for the pc to find the files it looks for. delete all temp. files as they are not used. they are remnants of program loading files and internet files that are no longer serving any purpose, photographs take up a lot of room on the drive especially if they are high quality so i would reccommend that you save them to cd's or dvd's and delete any you are not in immediate need of from the computers hard drive. make sure you save them before deleting though. with any luck this should help
the amount of memory you have also effects the speed of your computer. today i think at least two gigs is neccessary so check how much you have and upgrade ( add more memory) if you need to. best of luck

I find that throwing it out of the window doesn't help! (Especially if the window is closed at the time!) LOL. Shouting at it doesn't help either, neither does stamping on it and calling it names! Bury it in the garden and see if you can grow a new one! LOL.
