Spanish slug-spotting

BBC news page:

“Scientists are asking people to report sightings of Spanish slugs, to see how much of a threat they are to Britain.

The Spanish slug is much larger, and more resistant to slug pellets than species native to the UK.

Tristan Maclean, a scientist from the John Innes Centre in Norwich, explains how they differ from ordinary slugs"

Thanks very much for these links Fran. I didn't know how big they are!! Hope I never have to deal with any.

they're a fairly new invsasion, nothing's learned to prey on them yet, which is what they're worried about, I think: bigger, breed faster and more eggs, and unpreyed on - disaster scenario!

Do these slugs play guitars or stomp about with castanets? We already have some long slithery buff slugs with orangy yellow undersides. They can munch away, as I grow no veggies. If something might be vulnerable I protect with dried holly leaves. If they really annoy me, a light sprinkle of salt does the trick rapidly.

could you all spread the word, or the link at least, thorugh your own networks of contacts? the more people involved in the survey, I think, the better all round
