New Years' Day 2013 - 11am

Couldn’t believe how bright it was outside, so took a couple of pics – for once there was no trace of cloud for the sun to hide behind as soon as it saw me come out with a camera!

I didn’t look through the camera at the sun – I just held the camera bit to one side, pointed it in about the right direction and clicked – took about a dozen goes to get the first pic, but a lot safer!

Is this an omen for the new year, or just the calm before the storm??

Those Hedera species are very nice over there. Fran, whatever is your question, I know you are a big optimist, because I see A LOT of flower pots under the table :))

lol even when I Lived on the 7th floor I knew I'd get a garden some day, and started collecting, whenever I saw tubs and large pots going cheap. I've got about two dozen troughs, planters and window boxes to find room for this year

Will send you some seeds soon, so prepare also some soil.

Thank you so much, Kat - *s* I'm still trying to find the right place for the ornaments you so kindly sent me (wow, last year now!)

I have almost a full sack of potting compost, and a composter nearly full: I've done something wring with that, because while I dig out piles from the base, the gap doesn't get filled in from above, I seem to have some kind of "log-jam", so I'm mining a bigger cave each time. Maybe I can get that jam cleared - ha, climb up on top and jump up and down should do it!

I'll see if I can get someone to take some pics. Better still, I'll take the pics while they do the jumping.

So bright Fran, I wondered what it was! Oh yes the sun. It did pep us up a bit......but we are back with the claggy grey today. I'm sure it gave you a treat as you ventured out to photograph this unusual sight. I believe Russians lean against sloping back walls when this occures in their winter days. They remove a few outer garments and let the skin make some valuable Vitamin D. Happy Snappy New Year.

It's been gorgeous up here too for the last two days Fran - long may it last :)

We had a sparkling day here yesterday , hasn't lasted though , back to rain today .

It was lovely here yesterday Fran, a real pickmeup just seeing the sunshine, your plants all look as though they are enjoying it, today its been a constant drizzle all day....

Yes, yesterday was such a treat - almost felt cheerful enough to jump up and down in the compost - but not quite...

I'm thinking about that too Steragram/Fran, but with a patent stirrer thingy, but somehow cannot motivate myself to do the stirring. Bit of sun today too but still no urge to stir things up. Perhaps some more fat balls for the starlings and a bit of mining in my allium infested circle. The fox has half buried something disgusting in the circle and I am waiting for him to return and eat it!!!!I shall leave some rennies near bye for him if he wants any.

I have a long metal pole that i use as a stirrer, but I don't have that much shoulder/arm strength so I'm not sure how much good i'm doing.

I thought you'd got the circle invasiion under control, Dorjac, or at least diminished the impact a bit!

They little allium fronds are still smirking at me Fran, in the circle. I was definitely right not to plant anything much there. I saw packets of them at Harlow garden centre. PLEASE ANYONE WHO READS THIS NEVER PLANT ALLIUM COWANIE BULBS EVER. If they like your garden they will never give up. They shoot as early as SEPT and OCT. Then grow into long thin straps until MAY. Then have tiny white flowers. The leaves swamp over anything low near to. Or in the middle of shrubs.

I second and third that! I suppose they'd be ok in tubs or other confined space where they couldn't spread, but they do sound tigers when let loose.
