Why do all walks begin with H?....

I had the week off as you know so we decided to go for long walks every day (altho’ Monday was round Ikea…does that count?!)…but my husband seems to have a penchant for hills. Saturday we headed off for Hambledon Hill…a Neolithic hill fort near us & a National Nature Reserve.

Richly deserving of that protection this place…there’s a vast amount of chalk grassland flowers & insects up there…& I do mean UP there!! Goodness what a climb but well worth it.

The views over the rolling countryside are lovely…

By the 3rd photo there you can see how far up we’re getting! I spent a lot of my time looking where I was walking as there’s a carpet of wild flowers all around…

The little purple/blue Harebells are everywhere as are the Common Knapweed then there are Field Scabious…tiny versions of the garden one & Clustered Bell flowers which are gorgeous…

Lots of butterflies common to this type of habitat…Painted Ladies, Clouded Yellows, Adonis & Common Blues & Burnet or Cinnabar moths…plus the little brown chap at the end!

As we walk round the fort you can see the ramparts quite clearly…

…& the views over the Blackmore Vale…including hubby!

Just briefly…the next day we went to Hod Hill, the largest Iron Age hill fort in Dorset which was an even steeper hike up to the top but beautiful none the less & with just as much wildlife to look at…

I think this flower above is self heal but as with all my labels I’m open to correction! I could give several names to some things!
These last 2 are Bristly Oxtongue & something I couldn’t identify anywhere.

When we got back down we headed for the nearest hostelry which had a garden full of delights…but I’m sure you’re nodding off by now so I’ll share them with you another time!

Great blog. and yes Ikea does count. After my knee op in Jan I always said the best place to exercise it was a superstore. Especially at that time of year. I found another good one a coach tour of USA and Canada which was great.Haven't quite found the answer to my shoulder op 4 wks ago - except maybe blogging.

A very interesting and enjoyable blog, Fluff. I felt quite exhausted at the end of it, but only at the thought of climbing all those heights!
Lovely wildflower and butterfly photos. As for nodding off, nothing is further from the truth! I think you should write an illustrated book of your walks. Looking forward to the next chapter.

BBB...thank you for the thought of writing an illustrated book....don't think there's enough hours in the day for me to do that...this took me ages!!

Swanky...I just use a normal digital camera & stand on my head a lot much to the merriment of hubby...he says you have wonderful taste by the way....

Thank you everyone...I actually wasn't going to post that quite so quickly on the heels of the seaside blog but by the time I'd got to the end I'd forgotten that decision & pressed publish anyway! I tried to bring it back by 'edit your blog' but there's no option to keep it back for good so on it had to go!!!
Didn't mean to wear you out! Especially Ian!! :0)

How was work today Fluff ? ? ?

18 Aug, 2009

Well Ian...it's Wed now & I've only just seen your question. Work today was a long, hot, waxy day thankyou!! When can I retire??!!

19 Aug, 2009

As soon as you would like to, or more likely these days when you can afford to! ! ! I have spent most of today indoors either here at home or in shops and the library. Not that I wanted or indeed had the money to buy anything but air conditioning is a draw no man can escape. I did however manage to fix my scooter, yay. :~))

19 Aug, 2009

Who's a clever boy then?? How did you manage to fix it? Not that I'm casting nasturtiums on your mechanical ability you understand but I thought it was knackered?

Oh...& hubby says I can retire when we make our first million...next week then! Yay!!

19 Aug, 2009

Lol, If we win the euromillions this week then I'll not forget my friends........... I'll send them all a postcard from somewhere hot and sunny............ As to the scooter, the guy at the scooter shop (who knows we can't buy a new one! ! !) said it was knackered and today is the first time I've looked at it. Seeing how it was knac.... broken anyway I decided I couldn't do much more damage to it and set to with the spanners and a big can of WD40 (its a lubricant) and hay presto I got it to go! ! ! It sounds a bit "funny" but the wheels go round in both directions (not at the same time, Bob) and the lights, horn and steering go where you would expect, so in my eyes its fixed. :~)))
ME, I'm a clever boy. Lol

19 Aug, 2009

Hey....we women know all about WD40...weren't they a reggae band in the 80s??!!

19 Aug, 2009

LMAO they were an excellent band.
