Dotty about Dottydaisy's NGS Open Day...

On May 29th, My OH and I, fulfilled a long awaited promise to visit Dottydaisy’s very first NGS, Open Day, and so with google maps in tow, we set off to pick up Cinderella, en route, and arrived at Dottydaisy’s about 2.40pm, thanks to the navigational skills of our wonderful passenger.
Most folk have a tom tom, we had a Cinderella instead! lol.

The sky was quite grey, but rain-free, and there was a bit of a breeze, (Dottydaisy lives very near the Coast), and we arrived to find the garden overflowing with enthusiastic gardeners, and a wonderfully warm welcome from our hosts of the day, Dottydaisy and her OH, which certainly made up for the lack of sunshine.
We also met up with Shirleytulip and her lovely OH too, so it was a really nice get together with other Goyers, all of us meeting for the very first time.

Well, what can I say about the day?
Dottydaisy has a truly wonderful garden, and the hours of loving care that has gone into it, speaks volumes.
There are a number of wooden arches that lead you through the garden, and encourage you to pause and smell the fragrant climbers clothing them…They also add height and vertical structure..Many have decorative pots or stone faces, so make you smile, as you see them sitting amongst the climbers.
The arches also frame the views, displaying such wonderful planting combinations, that really work well together as a colour palette…
Pathways wander in gentle curves, leading you through the garden, and actually form a circuit, so you can follow these winding guides all the way around, navigating your way to see every part of the garden through various angles.
Curving borders are laden with plants, spilling over onto grassy edging, softening the look, as in so many great designs.

It is not an overly large garden, but so well thought out and cleverly designed, and the planting was a pure pleasure for anyone with a photographic passion…So I was indeed a happy bunny, snapping away at anything that caught my attention…
I know that Cinderella and Shirleytulip have both added blogs on our day out at Dottydaisy’s, so I will try and show you some different planting, and structures that caught my eye….
I hope that you enjoy…

I hope that you enjoyed these photos, and they give you an added taste of Dottydaisy’s stunning garden, to the ones that Cinders and Shirleytulip have already blogged…I have tried very hard not to repeat similar photos of the day.
May I thank Dottydaisy for allowing us to share her incredible garden, and congratulations on your first Open Day, it was a huge success, my friend.

Three tired, but very happy souls, drove back to Wiltshire, discussing a day well spent…And we even got to see the Sea!
A great day out, among friends, and we got treated to tea and a tour of Cinderella’s wonderful garden before we went home!
It just doesn’t get any better than that! \0/X

Thanks everyone for your comments, but I just took the pictures, Dd and her OH, had done all the hard work for us. It really was stunning, and any that can make her next open day, try and go, because it really is worth it, apart from meeting up with fellow Goyers as well. It really is like meeting old friends, It was the same at Spritz's last year, and Tet's this year..and Cinders really was the best navigator we have ever had...we said we could do with her permanently in the car with us!!
If Cinder's is happy about it, I will do you a blog on her wonderful garden too...

What a lovely blog Flori. I really enjoyed that. I love the pergola, and what about that beautiful tree with the golden leaves...stunning! I hear that gardeners have problems with the 'June Gap'.....mmm....no sign of that in any of my Goy friends' gardens!

Thanks everyone for all your great comments! It is tough when you have three people all doing a blog about the same garden, but I hope that we all have kept you stimulated, and between the three of us, you have got to see a lot of Dd's wonderful NGS Open Day...
As I have been asked, and I have had the okay from Cinderella, I will also add a blog on about her garden too. Look out for it...Hope that you enjoy! \0/x

Fab pics, you must have a really good camera. Love the covered area in the first pic. Wonder if I have space for something similar in my small cottage garden?

9 Jun, 2011

Do you have gardens to visit in Nova Scotia Pondlady?

9 Jun, 2011

I just wish some of you would come and help me to design my garden - I know when I've got bits right, but am no good at seeing how it should be in advance. Your gardens all leave me gobsmacked.

9 Jun, 2011

lovely blog on dottys garen flori, beautifull pictures and reading, have seen shirleys and you all looked lovely, so glad it was an enjoyable day, must see cinders version now lol :o)) x

You arent alone Steragram, we all feel like that about each others! We all wish we had done something differently. Gardens are always evolving, little things change in life and bingo! the garden changes. Mind you there are a fair few of us who sympathise with the "not so young" bit and are extremely grateful for long suffering Other Halves!

12 Jun, 2011

My OH does mow the lawns and cut the hedges - and we have quite a lot of hedge so I'm very grateful. But he has never even tried to grow anything...

16 Jun, 2011

See here I am at last \0/ Love the pics, verbal and visual. I always find it exciting when looking through something, at something, if you know what I mean. I love the fourth one down, I had to take my r. frisia out as it got too big, but I do love them. You could have used me as your navigator....I'm only just around the corner.....you could have taken the scenic route:-)

18 Jun, 2011

Sounds like a fantastic time you all had!!!! It's lovely that you all know each other in real life too as well as on GoY, I feel quite left out sometimes!

Your pictures are fantastic as always Flori, and congratulations to Dottydaisy for providing material to shoot... :o)
