*SIDETRACKED IN STOURHEAD*
For all of you wonderful Goyers out there, who have followed my ‘Lost in Somerset’, blog that I posted over six months ago, I wanted to take you all on a journey to a spectacular,(and I don’t use the word lightly), National Trust Landscaped garden, not too far from me, called *’Stourhead*’.
Stourhead is just outside Frome, (Pronounced Frume_) in Wiltshire…. The original House and Gardens were purchased by Mr Henry Hoare I, and passed onto his son, Henry Hoare the II, who helped create the ’_The Perfect Landscape Garden ’ from the 1740’s onwards.
It truly is spectacular, and certainly worthy of a visit if you are ever over this way, but allow yourself a good day to walk around it, and bring a picnic! You won’t regret it…..
I have posted several blogs on the History of Garden Design through the Ages, and this Landscape Garden, which now belongs to the National Trust, follows the fashion of ’_Idealising the view in pictorial terms_ ’, in other words, as a fine natural painting. This garden was heavily influenced by the Italian Style of Landscape design.
But this is not a history lesson, though the history is easy to look up, should you so wish….
This is my own private take on a glorious day out in a breathtaking environment….Please join me as we wander through this beautifully Landscaped Garden, linger, at your leisure, as we take a gentle stroll through Stourhead, as seen through the eyes of my camera….
Overview of Scenery…..
Temple of Apollo……
Classical River God….
Bristol High Cross…..
Just taking a breather…..What a view….
Reflected Foliage in all her Spring clothing……
Rhododendrons …..such a sight….
Time for your close up……
And in her full glory…..
Rhododendron in lilac……
Captured by my lens whilst preening….
Surrounding view and Temple of Apollo set as a jewel…
This reminded me of a Monet Painting….Beautiful!
I think we wore them out!!…..Hope that you enjoyed getting ‘Sidetracked in Stourhead’ with me….Thanks for the company…!\0/
