Only a weed

A Baby gardener sat in tears beside her private plot.
Alas, a yellow buttercup( a simple yellow buttercup)
Was all that she had got.
She’d nursed it since it was a seed,
And now she found it was a weed.

Unhappy little six-yr-old, to learn, as all must do
(Though they be Kings with golden crowns),
That life is full of ups & downs.
And dreams that don’t come true.
I said: "Tis very sad indeed,But are you sure it is a weed?

We sat & thrashed the matter out for nearly half an hour.
Suppose this rather lovely thing—(This harbinger of early spring)—-Was after all,a flower.
And, in the end, we both agreed: a buttercup is NOT a weed.

Reginald Harkell.

Weeds are unwanted plants & who wouldn't want buttercups?
Remember, as weans, holding one under your friends' chin to see if they liked butter? :-)

What a lovely rhyme FF, and I agree it is not a weed.

Glad that you all liked it. I always wonder whether to put the rhymes on or not, as someone might think them rather silly. Still I guess I should remember that it's impossible to please all the people all of the time! Yes, Mouldy, I remember doing that as a kid too.Rotten weather here in Surrey & I think I'm beginning to get "sad" disease. Perhaps we should all go & join Bik in Greece or Klahanie in California.

Got my bags packed. What time's our flight, Feverfew? Lol.
The only person who's happiness is your responsibility is your own Feverfew.
If other's are happy for you that's a bonus.
If they're not, then the problem lies with them...that's their responsibility, not your's!
Right, Mouldy, off the soapbox.
Hmmm...maybe I should use this box in the garden. Lol.
Like you, Feverfew, I'm not too proud to borrow from those who've put something more succinctly than I can or who inspire me, so you've got my vote.
