Is Spring on the way?

It is good to be back after so long. It wasn’t just the weather that made me uncommunicative (although Lincoln had some pretty tough wintery days), but a series of family crises and the diagnosis of glaucoma.

However, I am feeling spirited enough to look at my devastated garden with a modicum of positive thinking and to note that not everything is dead although I fear that I have lost my lovely Ceanothus.

Bulbs are springing up and I do not appear to have any missing so far, and baby leaves are sprouting on the hydrangeas and many other hardy plants.

So, time to think of what I must sow and to get back to the sanity which a garden affords following our period of hibernation (and stagnation). The sun shone warmly today and I could swear that I heard the first cuckoo! Can someone tell me whether this is possible or was it just wishful thinking. My nearest and dearest thnk that their Mother is losing a few of those round things…. oh what do you call them …er!!!

More anon.

PS Those of you who know me will recognise the little person in the pic’ with me as my great grandaughter Lily. Couldn’t resist!

Not sure as to whether you`ve lost it or not, LOL, it would be good to hear a cuckoo but surely they wouldn`t be around until late spring.......

I think we've all lost it after the terrible winter everybody's had. I'm ready to get back out there but afraid that more bad weather is on the way - we had more snow a few days ago.

Oh hasn't it been a horrible winter :o( but it's nice to hear from you and I hope things are a bit better now.
Lily is lovely isn't she :o)

I've heard this :-
"The cuckoo comes in April
She sings her song in May
In June she lays her eggs
And in July she flies away"
lol :o)

Thank you all for your kind comments and I was glad to have the record put straight by the quotation about the cuckoo.

It would appear that I have an unusual type of tinnitus!

Since I have not been on here since last year, I would like to wish you all a very happy 2011 x

Nice to see you back with us, Felinfan & blogging, too! :-))

You certainly had a "mountain" of snow there! We never had more than a couple of inches! We did have however some very hard frosts - certainly for this little corner of the UK! The last couple of weeks have been a lot warmer. But having said that we are not "out of the woods" just yet! February can be a "treacherous" month. We are only at the half way point!

Your granddaughter has grown a lot & looks very nice! We also became proud grandparents for the 2nd time a couple of days before Christmas when our daughter brought little James into the world! :-))

Thank you Shirley Tulip and Bloomer for the NY wishes and to Sanbaz and others for the comments about my eyes. So far so good for the latter. I am lucky to have been monitored early on, but have now been on drops for 6 months and having missed my last hospital appointment due to the snow, am waiting anxiously for the next visit in March to see whether they are working to reduce the pressure in the eyes. Fingers crossed! It was a bit of a foregone conclusion that I would get it as my father had it, my sister has it and now my eldest daughter appears to be suffering as well.

On another note, congratulations to Balcony on the birth of James. If I remember rightly, the pregnancy was not without problems, so I hope that all went well in the end.

It feels so good to be in touch with you all again.

Sleep well all.

Thanks for your congratulations, FF. Our daughter did have a lot of problems but thankfully the baby was delivered safe & sound just a couple of days before Christmas & mum & baby are doing fine :-))

Sorry to hear about your problems & I hope your visit to the hospital in March turns out to bring you good news! :-))
