Yes another one for the list, I wanted some pinks my grandfather used to grow them on his allotment, they were the tall ones you could cut for a display, but I can not find them anywhere, anyone seen them I can only find the small variety.

Welcome to Goy, glad you found us. Hope you have fun with your makeover. Why not mix the planting with shrubs and roses too, that will give it height and support for the taller plants. Enjoy.

Welcome to goy Etti, there are so many cottage garden plants to choose from, but if you want to create a natural one Valerians pink and white are tall and will self seed around the garden.Another idea which might be cheaper is to sow seeds now in situ. Love in a mist(nigella) godetias, calendulas, candytuft andcornflowers. You could always make a feature with an obelisk and sweet peas growing up it.Foxgloves in another tall plant, which if deadheaded regularly will carry on most of the summer.Hope this helps.Happy gardening.

Welcome from me too Etti. How about verbascum. Green Globe artichokes are good to eat but also make lovely dried flowers if allowed to flower. An obelisk with beans, there are some lovely ones available with red flowers or dark brown pods. Cottage gardens were supposed to have fruit and veg as well as flowers so how about a crab apple (Golden Hornet) or a fruiting cherry (Stella).

Welcome to GoY :o)
How about Lavender. It's evergreen, and has a wonderful smell. It's an old cottage herb and you can dry the flowers aswell ...
Good luck with your re-vamp.
