A visit to Beth Chatto`s garden.

Hello everyone, I`ve just been to Beth Chatto`s garden in essex & boy what a dry garden! most of the plants and shrubs looked very happy however there were a few perennials that had gone crisp but considering how dry it`s been the garden overall was lovely & gave me inspiration to carry on gardening in drought conditions…only joking i could never see myself giving up gardening no matter what the weather throws at me !!

That looks lovely,Elsiemay, despite the dry weather.Would love to go there sometime. It doesn't make us feel too bad about our dry lawns, does it ?We all have something in common there.

You lucky thing i would love to go there, i have a lot of her books and admire her enormously.
That last picture shows her grass to be very green in that area, i'm surprised seeing as the other pictures show her grass looking as brown and parched as mine !
Is her garden centre/plant sales area attached to the gardens ..... if so, did you buy anything ?

thanks Bloomer...that`s just how i felt too....The last picture Louise was partly shaded by some trees so i suppose that helped the grass there & yes the nursery is attached to the gardens & i bought a deep red Achillea which i now have to find room for !!

Thanks -that brings back memories - but where's the gravel garden? That was my favourite part! I have a few plants from her Nursery...it's lovely to look at them and know where they came from.

I want to go again...and again....:-))

Just seen this Elsiemay, always wanted to go there. Is that genista aetnensis? (not sure of the spelling). In the bottom pic, which I love, the land seems to curve and it possibly accounts for the green grass as it could be in a shallow dip??:-)

did you mean the pic with the yellow flowers, that is alstromeria & yes the land did curve & there`s some shade from large trees...it`s worth a visit very pretty & the nursey has a good selection too!
