It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas ....

Just a week to go & no tree in the house yet ….. busy making drapes for a front room. But have managed to do a bit more decorating, as my OH scrambles about in the loft with a dodgy painful knee, trying to find the boxes which contain all the glittery stuff …. I’m still in the recovery phase of my gall bladder surgery, so not much help with the scrambling about on my hands & knees & shifting heavy boxes about. Finally, the lounge is looking a bit Christmasy, even if the tree has even been bought yet. A trip to my two favourite shops in the city, Whispering Christmas & Christmas Heirlooms has carried me to somewhat delusional heights & seen me coming triumphantly home with a beautiful big heirloom Santa (still in his box at this point & awaiting to emerge at the right time … when my OH has had at least two glasses of wine & is feeling particularly benevolent), & a wonderful olde worlde Toy Shoppe which lights up in the most delightful way. And we’ve managed to get some outside lights up on the house & some trees, but accidently left one set on all night, so not sure if they will ever work again … won’t know until I approach the house at 11.45pm tonight when I finish work. In our previous home, we used to have a very big outdoor light display, but most of the bigger animated items are still in boxes in the garage, with lots of other stuff on top of them …. hoping we can reach a few of them to get up in the back garden area. In spite of the fact that I am on duty on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day until 11pm, we are really looking forward to our first Christmas in our lovely old villa.

I put the lights up on one of the arches in the hall a few days ago, & stuck a big cherub in the middle …. no-one can see that the poor plumb baby has lost his wings …. I hope.

Went into the Christmas Heirloom shop in the city, & came home with a lovely ruby garland, which I thought my poor wingless cherub deserved to get to hold.

Decorated the lounge mantlepiece two days ago & stuck some cube-lights which change from orange & lime-green, to red & yellow …. my OH thinks this is mighty distracting whilst trying to concentrate on the comings & goings on Coronation Street.

A lovely wide hearth (waiting to be retiled), was just begging to be decorated, so out came a big silver deer I purchased three years ago from a charity shop for just $5, but have never had the right place to put him. Now he looks right at home with a new Elf-Santa …. also one of my many ‘gave into temptation’ pieces from Christmas Heirlooms … I just love that shop!

This cherub in the entrance hall is part of our normal fixtures & fittings, but I can sense that he is jealous of the glittering ruby garland being held by his wingless brother above, so I guess I will have to find something equally glittery & fine to display with him. I simply cannot be the cause of sibling rivalry at such a time of goodwill towards men (& cherubs) …..
