weeds and mother nature

Hello all,
Its as you get a little older you soon find out your not as fit as you once thought you could be and re-starting the garden spade work after the winter indoors most of the time soon tells you just how unfit you have become but after a few days of good weather and that good old set of tools working again your soon back to norm,

But what about those of us who have health problems?
IE back ache, or indeed are at the stage of life when its time to not do nearly as much as you once did "But instead just enjoy the garden seat and that relaxed feeling,
All this sounds great but the weeds are deaf when it comes to not growing so fast,
Its now time to take a look at how mother nature deals with weeds,
If you have ever walked in a thick wooded area such as a forest you’ll not see many weeds at all,
Why!
Because the trees drop their leaves every year in about the same place, this builds up & up & up and over the years this thick layer of leaves causes a dark thick covering and no plant will live without light,
PLants like us humans need light/water/food & some need warmth,
so if you think about it if your bedding area has a good regular topping up of mulch such as leaf mold the weeds cant get to the light and this will reduce the weed growth to at least give you a lot more time and less effort to keep control of the weeds,
the few weeds bird drop will germinate but again its better to have a lot less to deal with than be over grown with them.

Wise lady ! Also weeds sometimes have very small flowers and seed quickly, so spread their seed while you are doing something else and not looking. Best to keep the hoe going every day if the ground is dry.
