Knock on the door Sunday – neighbours cat had been playing with it.
I put it beside my pond where it played dead for nearly an hour and then it turned around and walked off in the the plants. I had to sit with it to make sure it was not got at again. It was a mature one with quite a large belly and we could see its heart racing. Apparently they can play dead for hours, my family thought I might be there all night!!!

Thanks TT, the newts seem to wander quite far for their size as they are sometimes found in neighbours garage!

My neighbours has 5 cats and they are at work all day and leave the cats out so I would say neither has she Linclass lol

That's really sad for the cats, don't why people have them when they're out at work all day. Mine is perched on the computer table, obviously it's feeding time. Subtle hint from her !

I agree Shirley they come and sit with me when I garden but its the cold and wet they hate. They line up on the front door step to greet them when they come home.

They could put a cat-flap in a shed or garage door for them ! At least there'd be shelter from the elements.

Thanks Hollyeves I have just looked it up and its a Common or Viviparous Lizard - Lacerta vivipara / Zootoca vivipara - Native to UK. Which explains why it seemed so big.
Says a lot for phobias - I thought I was scared of Lizard? but because I thought it was a newt I had no problem carrying it!!!!!!! Because the neighbour has brought me newts before I didnt give it a thought.

So one good thing has come out of another ...phobia cured then ?
Next time you see a Lizard..think Newt.:o))
