Homeless cat sad tale.

There are a lot of questions on GOY about cats coming into gardens. For over a year I have had an extremely timid long haired cat haunting the seating in the garden. At first he ran every time I opened the back door. I never fed him or touched him. Often I shooed him off too as he grew a little bolder. On warm summer evenings at dusk he sat on the back door mat. Two weeks ago he looked shockingly ill. Never moved for 2 days. I put out dry food and water he seemed to get a little better. His back legs seemed weak. Saturday a week ago he was badly soiled at the back. I rang the RSPCA. I tried to grab him and ‘confine him’ as requested. He spat and snarled and escaped my grasp and ran off. The RSPCA man was chatting as the cat returned and went on a seat in the gazebo. He had a good look at him and got quite near. He ran off again and reappeared today, Sunday. Barely able to walk, still soiled, fluffed up. I thought he would have died. We went out to Maldon, as it’s a lovely day. When we got back there was a ginger shape hunched up on the patio. They may need to bring a trap and the RSPCA rung every day to see if he was back. The RSPCA man said he would check on Monday to bring a loop if Ginger has returned.

Here he is, poor old ginger pusscat. Too shy to connect properly with anyone. No tail raising in greeting. So scared of humans. So ill now he just sits and stares at me. Such a sad subject. Sorry it is not a nice story but I thought it needed to be told.

More pussy cat intrusions. My little semper vivum garden was doing OK until Spooky the street cat had a punchup with another, probably black moggie, and knocked the pot off its pedestal and broke away the side of it……Grrrrrrr!! Fluffy white hairs all over it and a few black tufts on the lawn. She strolls through the living room as if she lives here. I NEVER feed here but she is always in the garden. Now the search is on to find a similar pot

Oh that is sad. It sounds as if he might be in renal failure, or very weak from lack of food. When their back legs go like that, they are really sick & extremely weak. I do hope you are able to get help for him of some sort. Such a pretty cat.

Thank you Dwyllis. The RSPCA inspector will call in later.
To see if he can be captured and either treated or the other alternative. Unfortunately he is is such a fearful, nervous cat that he could not be anyone's pet. I was content for him to be around the garden. Sometimes not seen for long intervals.

Ginger has been captured easily with the loop and taken away. He was quiet in the carrier, as he is so ill. I gave a donation by cheque, as RSPCA have been so good about checking to see if he had returned to our garden.

That is sad, the poor little thing, I hope the RSPCA manage to collect him and see if he can be saved, it seems as though he has needed help for a long time, perhaps his owners moved away or even passed on, you will never know the answer...

Oh thats good Dorjac, I posted at the same time, at least now Ginger has a chance, hopefully he will be ok but if not at least he will not now have to suffer slowly......

Healing thoughts for Ginger pussy cat ... xxx
Sad how very many cats and kittens are without loving homes ...

You have done your best for him Dorjac, maybe he would be well enough to live in your garden with a small shelter xxx

If the RSPCA can get Ginger well again, I think you will have a lovely cat. He wants to stay with you and chose to spend his time at your place when he was very ill.

That's sad. I hope he'll be all right.

Strange how some cats are so fearful of human touch and company. For over a year now he has run away as soon as he saw me or heard the door handle go. Yet he wanted some sort of company on his own terms. I gave him a box and a cushion last winter and he was fine Pam. Sometimes he disapeared for several days. Difficult to know if he ever had a proper home.

Bless him Dojac, hope he gets better xxx

I have heard today that his kidneys were failing and that, sadly, he was not treatable and has been put to sleep MG . At least he doesn't have to endure another winter out in the cold, and searching around for food and shelter. As the RSPCA inspector said. Even if he could recover, his cat personality would not allow rehoming. We have had three cats over 30 odd years. The first one was another determined long hair who chose me and was determined he owned me. The second was a runt from a litter being teased by children. The third was rehomed to me when his owner went into care.....easily the best of the three...visitors asked after Henry before they asked how we were!!!! Couldn't find another one like him....ever.

Whilst I am sorry to hear Ginger has had to be put to sleep but as the RSPCA inspector said better that than another winter out in the cold searching for food and shelter. Our pets really do twist themselves into and through our hearts and it is a huge wrench when one dies or has to be put to sleep.

Oh bless him, at least he passed away warm and comfortable xxx

That's sad, but I'm glad he was given humane treatment at the end. He must have been very old.

Very sad about Ginger, but at least you did your best to help him Dorjac. At least his suffering is at an end.

I still find it puzzling Lindak how a cat can pick on a person and a garden and claim it as their domain. Our first cat was SO determined to accomplish this target. Then he was with us for about 10 years. Ginger was frightened of his own shadow. I shooed him away endless times. After a while he would run 20 feet away and sit down and stare at me.....as if to say.....you can't make me go.

Brave wee soul inside that poorly body.

Has anyone read A Street Cat Named Bob. How this friendly stray Ginger cat chose to own a young recovering drug addict. He insisted, in the same way, that he wanted to share his life with the busker who had been given a flat by a charity. They went busking together round Covent garden, but Bob eventually decided he preferred to stay at Home. The paper back is in ASDA. but I have it on my Kindle.

We had a stray longhaired cat visit us some years ago and our cat tolerated him. I used to feed him but couldn't get close to him. His fur was hanging off in tufts. Apparently he used to visit several people around where I lived.

Just as an add on to this sad story of a ginger cat. We came home yesterday from a four hour outing to N.Weald airfield for a Flypast and a meal in the NAAFI and a visit to an Antique fair. Opened the back door and there on the patio stretched out like an old fashioned race horse was an enormous black and white cat He was no longer alive, and I have never seen him before!!Next door removed the cat, no collar or tag, and they dealt with it. Just now, I was getting my breakfast and a lovely mum blackbird landed. In a split second the Choisya shrub shook and out pounced a black cat. He missed thank goodness. What is it with cats and our garden?

That's sad Dorjac it might have had a chip. Would it be worthwhile to place a news item in the local paper so that the owners might read it.

People have come to the door several times looking for missing cats Lindak. In which case I would tell them that during the bank holiday weekend we found a cat of that decscription de

The story of A street cat named Bob is a very good read. My neighbour gave me the book. Amazing cat.

You must have a sign on the gate saying cat haven
(tramps that used to roam the lanes looking for work would leave special signs. saying good place or don't go there.......

If you type in street cat named bob you can click on to see small video clips of bob and his owner

I have had a look at the videos Lindak. Amazing that a cat will follow his chosen human into a strange space full of people. My heart was in my mouth when PC Bob vanished in a crowded street in the book. He had such a good life in the flat compared with being lost in crowded London streets.

Just put in another picture of one on Spooky's bits of mischief. My little semper garden knocked off its pedestal during a cat fight......really annoying. Now have to search for a similar pot
