November afternoon in the garden

Potting up bulbs, sorting out the vine weevil infested Heuchera. Squirrels Nutkins with the Mohican style fur is back. He is digging up nuts and cleaning them and tamping them back in the ‘lawn ’again. Over by the Ribes it looks like its been ploughed up. It’s all moss there anyway, due to shade. The Meerkats are silent witnesses of Nutkins activities, and someone else who lurketh under cover…..Mrs Calico Cat.

He/she is a well fed, laid back squirrel. Busy snuffling and ploughing up the ‘lawn’. A little bit of soil on the end of its nose from all the excavations. Nut mover in chief.

The Meerkats have turned their backs on him(jokey birthday prezz from GJ) after I pointed them out in a magazine.

Nutkins is on the alert. Could it be that the guardian of the garden is lurking on squirrel duty

We know you fancy a bit of a chase after a squirrel Calico. Go chase squirrels in your own garden.

Another garden mischief maker The Vine Weevil. The little so and sos were all along this root chewing away. Just one tiny bit of root left. Now repotted ( look at heucheraholics web pages), some good stuff on vine weevils.

Rescued Heuchera. I am glad I looked at them more closely.

A lovely surprise. A self seeded pansy growing amidst the fuchsia. I saw it in spring but never thought it could bloom so long. Getting fuchsias ready for the winter huddle later on.

Thats about half of the bulbs I planted some saved ones still to go in the ground somewhere

To quote a friend I am a ‘cluttery sort of a person’ plus a touch of autumn colour . Lots of work done. Put the broom/tools back in the shed, and down came the rain.

Sorry about the repro of this picture. It shows all the pencil/gouache/watercolour put together to try and catch Nutkins bushy tail. Yes classes are very valuable+books+You tube……inspired by Sanbaz

I've yet to discover all the pests that can attack our plants and grassed areas. I hope you'll find the heuchera have all recovered...well spotted with the weevils.

Your photos are really good, thanks Dorjac, and your kitty is lovely too...love calico cats :)

Lovely blog Dorjac. I particularly like the last photo with the autumnal vine and the nice blue arbour....looks a great sheltered spot!

Your garden looks wonderful Dorjac. What a lovely area to sit in during the warmer weather. Winter is here in Glasgow and it is dark by four.

Yes, we are plunged into winter gloom here too Linda. I try to get out in it for as long as possible, just to get some daylight on my face! Today I was out there for about three hours picking leaves out from the gravel (groan!) and doing a bit of tidying up. I used to do my old garden in one or two days every autumn, but now I have so much more, I have to do it a bit at a time. Shame really, as I liked the quick transformation to 'winter tidiness'! How do you cope with your painting in winter? Do you have to work during daylight hours...or are you like me and make use of a daylight lamp?

Thanks for your kind comments ladies. A lovely sunny day here in Essex. GJ wanted to go out as his 2 trips this week have been flu jab and blood test! As soon as we got into the countryside down came the fog. As we reached North Weald airfield for our dinner.... out came the sun. Drove back in fog to the GC to even things up. Got in the shop area and there was a fire-drill. So I got thrown out....end of visit.

I should hate five of the little so and sos in my small town garden Seaburngirl. I wouldn't have to bother with a rotavator. Motto is not to have a productive Hazel nut tree.

I have to work in the daylight Karen. Lamplight is yellow and gives a false reading, you think the colours are richer than they really are. I can't paint after three in the winter and some days are too dark altogether. The sun gets lower and moves across the room differently too. I still paint tho'.
