Celery.

Grows well out in the Fens. I have tried several times and failed on the Cornbrake soil we have in Northamptonshire. Although other plants do well, as I incorporate plenty of horse manure in my ground.

Tried another way this year. Put one Celery plant in a large pot of ‘Cover’ compost, stood in a pot saucer for water to keep its roots damp, in the greenhouse. Which must be as good as the Fens.
It is thriving.

Dawned on me this week its a much better way of growing them, as 30% of people in this country live alone. Recipes usually include one stick of Celery. So I just go out and cut one off !

Ha ha.

Sorry, that should be 'Clover' compost.

Ha ha. Have now found a wine bottle cardboard box, to cover my Celery plant to blanche it. Should have done this some time ago.

I love celery ... I used to grow it, and it did well in the soil we had in the old cottage. I haven't grown it for years. I shall try next year using your method Diane :o)
