Someone on Facebook asked for pics of before and after which I shared the other day (first and last pic), and I thought I would share the same with my GOY friends (plus a few more inbetween), I’m so pleased with my garden this year and all the hard work my hubby has done also for me the last few years, my enthusiasm/obsession! has rubbed off on him over the years, he now also loves gardening with me and seeing it all looking nice, hope you like the photos and thankyou for looking :-))

1) 20 years ago when we moved in.

2) We had all the raised beds taken out and turf right the way to the edges (as you do)

3) The sunken area in the bottom left corner was where a greenhouse used to be (was removed before we moved in)

4) Decided to take out the shed (home made by previous owners), the back of it was made out of an old consertina garage door!

5) Bought in 10 tonne of topsoil to fill in the sunken area, which was delivered on the driveway and had to be wheelbarrowed to the back, chose one of the hottest days of the year to do it, OH says it was beginning of September 2003. Dont seem to have any photos of it, the picture below was a couple of years later. Also we decided with our neighbours at the back to take out the privet hedge and put in fencing. The robinia tree was planted in 2001 which grew lovely until 2009 when it started to die back etc we had to get rid of it, hubby was able to just push it and it came out the ground :-((

6) Below is 2010, we had not long had the back of the house extended and new patio and I had just joined GOY which was obviously giving me lots of ideas and I wanted to shape the borders etc to suit the new patio, this was the result. You can just make out the arbour seat in this pic, it had finally seen better days and thought I would be able to create a better border without it so decided to removed it a couple of years ago.

7) Below is this week, we got rid of the trampoline this spring, the bottom south facing border is the newest and probably my favourite as there was nothing atall in there, this has been developed over the last few years, really pleased with how it is looking, still areas to improve (as ever) but on the whole am very pleased.

Well done you both. Your garden is looking like a plants persons garden now, it is lovely and peaceful and beginning to look secluded from the neighbours.
