Too cold yet

By davros

Hallo! Encouraged by the fact that two people actually liked my first blog I,tentatively,am offering one more.I have broad beans called ‘Stereo’ ready to go in and some potatoes ‘casablanca’ being a relative novice I’ve not heard of either, but I’ll try anything once,I’ve other seeds to go in as well, but my friend Denise, who has the adjacent plot, and, incidentally, makes very nice jam, says that it’s too cold to put anything in yet. What happened to ‘global warming’ ?-what a load of codswallop!:I had a little argument with Denise about this, which I won convincingly,I said to her that speaking as an old fart with 67 springs under my belt,I could categorically say that,in my youth, springtime was much more pleasant-as were summers. She countered by saying that I imagined it were so:that it was my mind playing tricks! Of course I laughed, and asked her if she thought I was soft in head or something. She had no answer to that.
As I mentioned In my previous blog, I had trouble with rats in my compost bin;I think the blighters may have come back, which, reminds me of my seed potatoes: Of all the compost bins,in all the allotments,in all the world… Anyway,as we say in these parts: “I’ll say thee” well, maybe.

Hello Davros - we are in Shropshire also and it is so wet and cold on the allotments here - I have set some Broad Beans in trays in the greenhouse for OH today - so hopefully they will get a good start - the greenhouse is mouse proof - last year I set the beans and put them in the other greenhouse which is not mouse proof we found out the beans shot through and then finally collapsed - on investigation the beans had been partially eaten !! Nice to hear from you two from that wonderful neighbouring county of Shropshire, thanks for taking the trouble to read my blog ;and good luck with the veg growing - I'm itching to get growing too!

I'm afraid to start any seeds yet since we keep getting these little cold snaps here and there - I don't have a greenhouse (hoping John will put one up this year!) and my house gets way too much shade to have much luck starting seeds indoors.

We're doing a much larger veg garden this season so have started on the hard work of that.

It is so satisfying growing your own vegetables, isn't it? There's nothing like a freshly picked tomato still warm from the sunshine.
