Front garden border makeover..

Here’s a few photos to show my 1 hour of work in the garden today to remove the bush from the small border to the end of our front garden which is the entrance of our culdisac. I will do a part two to this blog over the weekend when new plants have been purchased and put in :)

Well done, Dan. Are you going to plant anything in that space? Annuals spring to mind... perhaps some showy bedding. I know some people don't like that, but I wouldn't be able to resist!

Nice job Dan. I googled mapped down to your home on the corner and looked at the front before you cleaned it up and your street sign could hardly be seen. From what I can see from off of Pryor Mede you did a great job on your back garden.

A big improvement Dan,and I guess the tree was/ is taking up a lot of the space and moisture with it's roots..What kind of tree is it? I also think summer bedding would look nice ,till you decide if you want something permanent..then bulbs for next spring..Some compost would be appreciated to kick start anything you plant before hand..a job well done :o)

Hi everyone! The tree is a maple of some sort, everyone on our culdisac had one in their garden (back or front) and I've bought a bag of compost, some bedding plants and going to look at a few perennials too :)

I would hang fire on the bedding plants just yet,Dan..far too early and cold..keep them frost free till at least mid/late May..Perennials should be fine..but W.Yorkshire forecast isn't good for a couple of nights,so it could be the same for you in S.Yorkshire..maybe some sleet or light snow as well ..brrr !
At least you can get the bed prepared ,and it will give it chance to settle in..probably a long time since it was given some TLC :o)

I think it's a vast improvement Dan and like Loosestrife did a bit of 'Googling'! It will certainly brighten that area up when the weather is warm enough to pop in some bedding plants. Contractors often plant up beds which look lovely when first done, but don't always have regard for the look a few years down the line and not everyone has your interest in keeping it nice.
From my Google spying, I hope the house across the road has gone in for a bit more gardening now!
Forgot to say: You didn't get all that in the bin, did you?

My bedding plants don't go in until the last week of May. It used to be June 1st, but I think the seasons are earlier nowadays. They are available so early now, though, that sometimes the choice is a bit limited by then. If there's anything I've set my heart on, I buy them and keep them under cover, then harden them off before putting them out. I often wonder how many of the plants bought as soon as they appear in the GC actually survive...

Hi Dan, I agree, bedding plants are sold too early, especially by the likes of b&q, and unsuspecting customers , thinking that as they're selling them, that now is the time to plant them out, a late frost finishes them off, and they sell you another lot in may, they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it, but they do it every year, Derek.
