Happy Tulip Delivery Day To Me!

My Peter Nyssen Tulip order arrived today! I have another lot coming later from Sarah Raven. Last year I didn’t get enough, so this year I’ve really gone for it. They are an expensive indulgence, but I love them so much, and they cheer me up so much in Spring!

I shan’t plant them until the start of winter. They will all go in pots so I can display them on the staging…well out of Labrador tail zone! Something beautiful to look forward to. Go on…treat yourself! :)

P.s. ordering from Sarah Raven, a few of my choices were unavailable because of crop failure. Presumably this is because of the hot summer, but be prepared for disappointments when ordering this year!

Lovely - I really like the little red pointy one! Do you discard them after the first season? Looking forward to seeing them in flower!

Fabulous, all that brilliant colour for early spring!

Thanks everyone. Stera, I do. I don’t have room to plant them in the ground (they don’t do well even if I did), and I don’t have the patience to label, dry and store them all over the summer and autumn. So now I give in, chuck them, and get new stock. Its very indulgent...but the bulb breeders need people like me!! Lol! I don’t grow annuals though, so its money saved there that goes to the tulips. See how I justify myself! ;)

Now that is really impressive justification Karen lol. I really like the red pointy one wall well. I've given up with them for reason you said, dog tails lol

Thanks Jen! 😉

We do the same K, ditch them, they never come back the same....and I like to try new varieties, haven't decided on a colour scheme as yet, we were warned there would be a shortage, so more expensive as well!!

I didn't find them any more expensive tbh. Just couldn't get some of the ones I wanted.

Oh! I like the look of this, Karen.

These are lovely - tulips are one of my favourite flowers, they grow so gracefully. I pot all of mine and sometimes leave them in the pot all year and they do come back, though I always buy more too. Enjoy! We only live once.

had to plant my new tulips as they were in a layered pot with other bulbs for a succession of flowers as well as bellis daisies on the top. 2 are for Victoria who is in Wales. So far I haven't had problems with planting them early. so fingers crossed .
love the double red one is it called uncle Tom? I had that one in the ground for years. lost them in the winter of 2011/2012

A real blaze of colour there, Karen.

Someone was advertising an Ice Cream tulip on Facebook. Certainly new to me.

I’ve seen that one Eirlys. Not my kind of thing...bit too fussy.

Lots don't come back but a few do - I'v a couple of quite big clumps that have been in for about five years and they increase year by year! The dainty little species one spread too.

16 Sep, 2018

Thats very true Stera, and I forgot to mention that I have quite a few species tulips in the ground. They do well enough.

Having read the comments about throwing out the old bulbs I feel a new sense of freedom coming on - I always carefully save mine and then have real trouble deciding where to plant them!
I order new ones each year for containers anyway so why on earth have I been saving old ones?!!!!

Its a hatred of waste I think Chris.

Karen, love the new pic of you. What a fabulous collection.
I also like having all the same color. I have not had much
luck saving the bulbs. So with a certain amount of guilt,
I toss them. do like getting new ones each year! we have not had one of those glorious years for gardens...Now waiting to see how the leaves will change.
