Rachel's Garden up-date.

In spite of the awful leaden skies and drifting mist, Callum and I set off to work in Rachel’s new garden today. This is a reminder of what it was like on Dec.1st last year…

The shed has gone now – Scott and Callum took it down a few weeks ago, and so today Callum lifted the big slabs that it was set on. Then I dug out the corner and planted a dark leaved Sambucus and some young Hellebore plants. This corner is quite shady, especially in winter as it faces North. It will get some sun in the summer as the sun’s passage is fairly clear to the West. The rest of this muddy area will need to have new grass seed put down in the spring.

Then we set about laying a stepping stone path in the lawn using the slabs that we took up from in front of the decking where we created beds and planted roses etc. Callum worked really hard and we soon had it all down, raked and washed. I think you can see that Rachel now has the beginnings of a pretty and very private little garden :)

You have indeed created a very pretty space for your daughter. I love the row of stepping stones in the lawn.

A big difference already. It will look lovely when the plants fill out.

You really do have the knack for making the garden gorgeous and what seems boundless energy for putting plans into action. How do you do it?!

Looking good Karen, I think it does one good to help out in someone else's space, as you found when working in Glamis, being your daughter its also a labour of love, I have always enjoyed working in my kids gardens as I did in my mum and dads, I even miss my sons allotment, they had to give it up when daughter-in-laws dad was ill as their time was spent on more important things, you won't need to spend money on her garden, you'll just be able to share whats already growing in your own when they need sorting and think of all the extra ones you' have from the g'house....

It's going to look lovely, Karen. I love the look of stepping stones in a lawn, and they are such an effective path.

I like the shape of the two areas you created by putting the path where you did. I can so see it coming together filled with plants softening all the edges and climbing up the fences. It'll be a glorious space for Rachel. If she hasn't caught the gardening bug yet she will once she sees her garden growing. Great job Karen.

Wow, it's looking really good Karen. I'm always loathe to get rid of sheds etc, but it's so much better and a more attractive space.....roll on summer!
