Gran Canaria Holiday Jan.2016

This lovely Island in the Canaries, out in the Atlantic Ocean, west of southern Morroco, seems to have a perfect climate. During our stay, the temps varied between 18C at night to max.28 during the day. Perfect for us, as we love to spend our mornings walking. On our first full day, we walked about six miles from our hotel in Meloneras along the beach all the way to Playa del Ingles and back via the residential streets of Maspalomas. And they keep the beach so clean…it’s wonderful to walk barefoot along it. Here’s a photo I took of the Dunes from Playa del Ingles…..

My favourite feature of Maspalomas is the Nature Reserve with lake and bird sanctuary. They keep people out as much as possible, but you get lovely views of the scenery from the beach with a mountain backdrop behind.

A few of shots of hotel plantings. Sorry I didn’t get more, I ran out of battery somehow on the last day when I planned to take my flower shots and didn’t have time to recharge.

It was a shock to my system to get home and face the cold, but we don’t have any snow at the moment, and I think milder days will be coming at the end of the week. I hope you all have lovely holidays and lots of sunshine this week. It is such a tonic to feel the sun on your skin. :)

Oh Karen. I have been so cold this week. No gardening at all. Your photos look so good. Glad you had a great time.

So pleased that it all went well and that you feel better for a dose of sunshine and warmth. It looks as if it is a lovely area and it will have been so good for you.

It looks lovely Karen, and, nice to have a bit of sunshine at this time of year.i've always fancied Gran Canaria but doubt I'll ever go!
That Hibiscus reminds me of my first foreign holiday in Ibiza back in 1982...... There were lots of gorgeous red ones like this one and orange in the airport car/coach
park!welcome back........to the ice and snow!

I want to go...What terrific pictures. especially the beach ones. I did not know there was a beach left that was not covered with umbrellas etc. Too cold for that?
I wish when we were living in London that we did more island hopping. It was such a difficult time for us, three children and the dear husband. His job was very taxing and I had decided that the piano was it. So you can imagine how restful things were. We had a dandy little garden which I loved. All planted by the previous owner. Your pics are outstanding and I can just imagine how blissful it must have been. What great memories.

I'm always happy to come home. A week is enough for me. But that feeling..when you step out of the plane and the air is so WARM! ..love that! Its not too bad here temp wise. Had a lovely walk with dogs earlier, but getting all the holiday laundry dry is a challenge.

Posy, there are plenty of umbrellas on the beach, but its so big theres room for everyone and you can be in a crowd...or not..so everyone's happy. Part of the beach is reserved for Gay people, and part for nudists, but thats only the umbrellas and sunbeds. Everyone mingles together...bare bottoms or not. Its a lovely relaxed place.

We missed most of the "Blizzard"....just missed us, we had about three inches, but I guess was an all time record in some places in the South. Not a particularly beautiful snow, not heavy which knocks out the power so am happy about that. Needless to say, lots of blowers going.

Ah, that's good to hear Posy...you were lucky this time. I was a little worried about you, but looking at the map it did seem that you were just tucked out of the way of it.
