Horizontal rain changed to vertical today..nice for a change!!! but i did make a dash to the tunnel today for a couple of hours...nice to get my hands dirty again..

I would have done the same Sandra....but I'm all out of compost! I'll have to pluck up courage to get out to GC for some supplies before I can do anything in there.

Hi Karen, that is how it looks around here from november to march usually, can't do anything in the garden till about end of february.
By the way, my grandaughter bought me a bottle of 'old pulteney' for Christmas, so I sampled it on new years eve, very enjoyable, Derek.

Horrible here as well, no end to it is there, still better off than lots of other people though so have to putup and shutup, seems mean to moan when so many haven't got anywhere dry to relax in....I am in the same boat Karen, no compost, if I ask hubby I'm sure he'll think I've flipped my lid, lol....

Lol..he would Sue!

Derek ...thats my favourite...we've been on Glenmorangie and Glenlivet over Christmas and New Year. Sometimes I add a drop of Drambuie to mine for a sweet treat....yum:) it definitely helps with this horrible virus.

A little tippler makes a great nightcap, doesn't it!
I was given a bottle of Bailey's for Christmas - not a drink I usually go for - but a drop in my coffee instead of sugar has been a nice treat. This horrible virus seems pretty wide spread.

Hi Karen, yes I think it will definitely be on my favourite malts list, glenlivet I like as well, but glenmorangie I can take it or leave it,
A doctor told me years ago that the best cure for a cold was to get a bottle of whisky, a candle, and go to bed, light the candle, and start drinking the whisky, when you see two candles, put them both out and go to sleep, you won't be bothered about your cold the next morning, works for me!!! Derek.

lol...that's not bad advice Derek! :)

Karen sorry to hear you have the bug, so has my OH went down with it before Christmas, and still suffering now, not good, get well soon...oh and guess what......its pi....g down again, and if not mistaken sounds like hail!! hey ho here we go...

4 Jan, 2016

John and I also have the dreaded bug and have every sympathy with anyone else who has caught it as it a nasty one. We even cough in unison!!
Cheers, here's to the next 'Get Better' drink!!

5 Jan, 2016

Thanks Angela and Chris. It seems this bug is all over the country. Much like the weather. Although it would seem that as per last summer, we in the North East are bearing the brunt. I hope the weather stops picking on us soon!

Oh, how some of these comments resonate! OH and I have the lurgy, but Derek's "cure" sounds tempting; I love Old Pulteney, it's one of my favourites; OH is very partial to a Rusty Nail (whisky and Drambuie); and horizontal rain is a phenomenon I first experienced when I lived on Tyneside. Really horrible! (horizontal rain, that is, not Tyneside, which I liked very much!)

But compared to the dreadful experiences of the hundreds of people flooded out across the country, such discomforts are as nothing. I fear that we are increasingly going to face such weather in the future.

Mild weather might be good for the heating bills but its not helping kill the germs or put an end to endless rain ...... & I've got the lurgy too!

6 Jan, 2016

Rusty nail eh Melchi? I never knew!

The rain is now coming down a bit more than across. The skies are much darker, even than this pic, and its getting tricky to drive on our road because of flooded patches and rivulets. The forecast for tomorrow is even worse, and theres no let up before Sunday when we head to Glasgow. I just hope its changed by the time we come back from Melonares!

Sorry to hear that my Goy friends are catching this bug. I'm feeling a lot better, but thats taken since Christmas eve. Its very tiring.

6 Jan, 2016

Having said all that, I still have a warm dry home! Halleluia! :))

6 Jan, 2016

The horrid weather seems to be the length and breath of the land as does the horrible virus, Karen. Sorry to read you've succumbed to both. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks Julia...I am much better now thank you. Sadly, the weather has gone from dreadful to .....well, can't think of an appropriate word. 9.20am and no sign of daylight whatsoever. Lashing rain and gusting winds. Hopefully some respite tomorrow....pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease! We haven't had any light for a week now and it feels like a month! Definitely couldn't live in the Arctic Circle.....nope.

7 Jan, 2016

In that case I won't tell you what I saw on the weather forecast for the next few days in your neck of the woods.

7 Jan, 2016

Julia, I'm just hoping it will have improved by 18th when we return from hols. :)

7 Jan, 2016

Just an hour without rain would be a treat!

7 Jan, 2016

I know exactly what you mean. We're not due for any holiday until March, so we'll have to grin and bear it (sigh) Still, mustn't grumble, we have friends who have lost so much in these dreadful floods, I can't help but think how lucky I am just to have a soggy garden.

7 Jan, 2016

Hope you have a great holiday, Karen.

OH's 70th today. It's been lovely - granddaughter here for "her" Thursday after a three-week break, and family expected over the next two weeks (as well as Christmas). Son no.1's wedding in Feb - promises to be so much fun, really looking forward to it. Only problem is that these days things come around at lightning speed (I remember sitting in front of the living-room clock having been told it was another hour until we left to go to my grandparents' place - and then I had to face the interminable journey from Wembley to Dorking!!!)

Oh dear ...

7 Jan, 2016

I know just what you mean Melchi...time really does go faster as you age!

7 Jan, 2016

So true. One of life's great mysteries!

7 Jan, 2016

Well, we finally had daylight today and what a treat it was! Sunny, clear, not windy and best of all, no rain! A decent walk around the village with the dogs was just what we needed. There is definitely a difference in the light....4.15pm it was not dark, and there was a sense of 'waking up' sun rather than dying sun. Brilliant! Snow tomorrow probably, but even that will be far preferable to rain.

8 Jan, 2016

Have a good holiday Karen, think the weather will pick up soon, surely it must!!!!!

9 Jan, 2016

Have a very enjoyable , sunny holiday Karen, and come back raring to go, in the Scottish 'sunshine', {what's that?} Derek.

9 Jan, 2016

That bug can just keep away from Lincolnshire Karen !!! Hahaa!
I hope you are feeling much better now !
I have two bags of compost, but nowhere to work ! Always the case isn't it !
Just got to say...I love Drambuie ! My daughter bought me a bottle of Tia Maria ! I love that too ! I just don't get to have a drink much as I'm the driver in our house !
Back to the weather...I know, I know..must I....well Rick said that a part Wales has had 75 days of constant rain ! Doesn't bear thinking about, does it and all those poor people whose homes have flooded yet again !
I imagine that, come summer , everyone will be saying that its too dry and we need the rain !
Anyway...Happy "dry" New Year ! xx

9 Jan, 2016

75 days of rain? Good grief!

Thanks everyone! :) x
