A few November photos....

….It can’t last much longer!

Back Garden from fernery with Arbutus unedo flowering and fruiting and leaves clinging on to Sambucus ‘Madonna’ on the right.

Leycesteria ‘Golden Lanterns’ is a joy at this time of year and can be almost fully evergreen in a mild winter. In a harder one, it will be defoliated, but recovers in spring.

Pond area with raised bed behind.

Part of the Golden Border

Once we get past this wet and windy spell I’ll finish clearing up and that should be it then move on to apple pruning. But the apples still have quite a lot of their leaves, so that might have to wait a while.

An amazing Autumn altogether. Your garden is still looking very lush! It is quite warm here at the moment, though windy. The leaves on the pavement outside have to be seen to be believed (we have an avenue of sycamores here). I have raked them out of the gutter daily in the hopes that the pavement sweeper will be around - I've nowhere else to put them! I have two green wheelie bins full of leaves from the garden, ready for collection next Monday - then there are no more garden collections until March. I have black bags full for leafmould, and a pile down at the bottom of the garden. The wisteria is still green, just beginning to turn. Oh well!

It has been quite nice here today so I have been planting the last of the bulbs - our cherry trees and the hazel are dropping their leaves but the acers are still keeping theirs but not for long I guess - Happy Gardening - Jane

Isn't it incredible for early November, Karen? I cut the grass on Monday, last cut of this year I should think. Found a Primrose in bloom and a Hellebore too. Masses of fallen leaves from the neighbour's Beech tree to be gathered up.

Its been another warm day here as well, I am making the most of it and gradually working my way around the garden tidying and pruning, the wind is clearing my apple tree so its a case of picking them up each time I venture down the garden, the grass needs yet another cut but that has to wait for hubby.
Its weird the way some of the plants react to the weather, I have lots of spring flowers having a little burst and yet my Hellebores are not showing any buds at all, this time last year the ones nearer the house started blooming in November..
Nice pics Karen....

Great Karen. Long may it last. The Arbutus and Leycesteria ‘Golden Lanterns’ are invaluable, arent they. My S. Madonna is a bit slow, think I might move it. Its all looking great Karen :-)
Happy pruning and hold on to your hat these next few days

We are expecting more bad weather tonight. Your garden is looking so good Karen.

Linda, I hope Storm Abigail behaves.

Melchi...thats a bit mean stopping your collections for four months. Ours continue all year. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks Jane.

Shirley, I have cowslips in flower, but they came out a bit tatty in my photos. Everything is very soggy and bedraggled.

Lincslass, my grass needs cut too, but its far too wet. And my hellebores are flowering and starting to go over now. Thankfully not all of them, so I will have some in spring.

Dawn, Madonna is slow to establish. I'd give it another year if I were you. This one hardly grew last year, and this is now its third season...and its really shooting at last.

Thanks Linda. It absolutely bucketed down here at about 6pm. Everything is very wet, which makes ideal conditions for moving things around, but hopeless for treading on or cutting grass. Incredibly mild again today. I went to the supermarget in a t-shirt and gilet!

Beautiful to see such a great amount still with colour at this time of year, much the same as down here. Every time I get chance I am out there cutting down ready for spring it is beginning to look much barer now. Weather is warm and dry today, sun shining out too. But indoors doing housework as no Lottie today and out with Sarah and Lottie tomorrow so must get some work done in the house. Lovely pictures :O)

Thank you Oliveoil! :) Just back from the Vet AGAIN with Molly. She came out of her crate this morning bearing a great big swelling on the back of her leg. Vet flummoxed, not a cyst, Lymph node enlarged, could be an abscess... they've sent a biopsy off for culture etc...time will tell. :(

poor Molly dog, wonder if she has been bitten by something and it has gone wrong. Hope she is soon better for you all.

Lovely colour still Karen.......it's an incredible Autumn. Nearly middle of November and it's warm down here!

We are getting beaten up by Abigail Paul...but nothing like they are getting in the North-West.

Off to Penrith tomorrow. Hope I don't get blown off the M6!

13 Nov, 2015

Good luck Melchi....water might be your challenge!

13 Nov, 2015

Still looking very good, Karen, gardens down this way are looking pretty messy & bedraggled.
We're being blasted by the remains of hurricane Kate - she's a powerful blower!

15 Nov, 2015

Thanks GF. Very wet here overnight, and we had a restless night as the water battered our bedroom windows. :( but it hasn't stopped OH going out for his game of golf).

15 Nov, 2015

Just very very wet yere now GF.

I feel for those north of the border who are suffering from all the wild weather at the moment. It was remarkably calm for most of yesterday's journey. A lot of rain around Lancaster, but almost pleasant over Shap. And just a little light rain in Penrith. Quite a relief! Daughter in Paisley says it's been horrid, though not as bad as further north of course. I hope the projected floods around Kendal don't prove to be too bad.

Glad your journey was uneventful Melchi. Fog and rain here since the start of the month, so we are really getting tired of it now and will be very happy to have few cold clear days if we ever get any!

15 Nov, 2015

I will leave Madonna another year then Karen.
Hope your fog doesn't turn to snow this weekend.

19 Nov, 2015

Hmm...fog gone for now Dawn. We had a nice sunny day today. First one this month. I'd like to see some proper snow here this winter, but not until December!

19 Nov, 2015

Sun!!! Nice 😀
Yes,let's keep the snow at bay for as long as possible.

20 Nov, 2015

It's been lovely and bright here, too, today. Cold, though!

21 Nov, 2015

A dusting of snow on my garden this morning.

22 Nov, 2015

Which variety is your Malus again Karen, Red Sentinel? I have Malus tschonoskii and the fruit are rubbish compared to yours.

22 Nov, 2015

That one is 'Evereste' Dawn. Its lovely isnt it. :)
