Return to the Quarry

Behind our house, about a mile back, is a disused Quarry. Well, it’s not disused, but it’s no longer Quarried. Nowadays it is an aggregate processing plant and Depot for the Highway maintenance Contractor.
Anyway, it’s a fair walk down a very long lane and up the hill to get to the top of the Quarry, but from up there you get fantastic views of the Coast of Angus and local farmland.
I took some photos along the way, starting with this one of daisies in a field of Oil Seed Rape.
And some more of the wild-flowers en-route..
And at the very top of the hill….
Did you spot my house? We could see the Tay Bridges, but the weather spoiled the photos I’m afraid. Sigh..will just have to go back up there for you another day.
Anyway, this is really why we trudged all the way up there…to get these next photos…
And on the way back down we spotted these wild Gooseberries in the hedgerow!

Super countryside Karen and those orchids and sooo beautiful. I'm so pleased to see you use a harness and not a collar on Willow and Molly,so much kinder I feel.

I don't know about kinder Waddy, it's the only way to stop them pulling...Molly is a dreadful puller and Labradors love something to pull against too. The harnesses are great and makes it much easier to control Willow when she's trying to get across the road to see another dog or person too!

Amazing shots Karen of nature at her best - we went on a garden trail last weekend - at Cardington in Shropshire - and saw the most amazing display of wild orchids in a large meadow - with a multitude of other wild flowers - bees and butterflies - Jane

Aren't you the lucky one, what a lovely lot of wildflowers up there and soo undisturbed. I do miss my orchid walks here, have to get out of my garden and do more exploring!
You reckon they are marsh orchids of some sort?
Beautiful photos karen. Yes I think I spotted your house, ab the 10th photo up? One on the left or middle one maybe? Doesnt it give you a good feeling to see your house in such a setting from so far away..
Weather def improving in north yorks, muggy n warm today but ola beginning to rain, better finish putting my rabbit proof stuff around my veggie beds now.

Yes, we had the same Resi...it got warmer and then it rained, and now its drizzly and cold again. :( thanks for your comments..yes, i think they are Marsh Orchids. It is very wet up there with the rock so close to the surface, and lots of that lovely deep brown Marsh Sedge that you see all over the Highlands.

A walk on the wild side Karen! Such spectacular views and so many wild flowers to admire bet you felt on top of the world.

Would have done Phyl, but it was a bit gloomy to be honest. Need to go up on a sunny day....maybe in October? lol! Can you tell I am a tad fed up with this awful weather? Thought we wouldn't need the heating this evening as it warmed up this morning...but no, back to wet and cold again. :(

Thanks for sharing your lovely walk with us, Karen & the Orchids were a great bonus. What a lovely place to live, tho' a pity about the weather, we're baking in the sun down here in Surrey( got to boast about something)😃

lol Feverfew....in all honesty, I wouldn't swap it. I love living here, even with the dire weather! :) And I guess we all feel the same really, or else we would move!
