May? Really?

I don’t know about other northern gardeners, but looking at Angelas photos today it is a different country up here without a doubt! Everything seems to be very late this year up here. Yesterday I noticed on Facebook that Vicky is saying her Heuchs are three weeks behind. I forget where she lives…is it Cheshire? Anyway, I agree with her!

Orange Princess has hardly moved for at least a week and is still going strong after the rain.

Still lots of these to open up yet and actually, they can stay as long as they like!

This potted Diosma Ericoides ‘Sunset Gold’ doesn’t seem to be minding the cold as I feared it would.

I’m pleasantly surprised with it’s hardiness so far. And it is extremely pretty. The foliage has a lovely aroma too.

Variegated Viburnum Tinus, still not opening its buds..

But I’m not really complaining as it’s been moved from the back to the front garden and it’s definitely growing.

My first Camellia flower of the year, opened this week!

The Camellias have been terrible this year. I’ve fed and watered them and they have rewarded me with refusing to flower. Next year I expect a bumper bloom!

And to underscore the point…Narcissus Thalia going strong. And a lot of my narcissus still to open up, no kidding!

Now, I’m not even going to show you all the trees still bare, the buds only just breaking, the mud and the bare earth everywhere….grass seed refusing to grow. You’ll need to take my word on them!

OK…CottageKaren’s annual ‘springtime’ rant is over…. x Feel free to join in the moaning….:Z

Yes, a different country, (you might be after Thursday, Lol) my Daffs, Tulips, Camelias have all finished. Roses and Iris are flowering and buds ready to open on Clematis.

Your Garden is looking great Karen, lots of lovely colour I love the Orange Princess, I fed my Camelia with a peat mulch and it produced lots of buds and flowers which have now sadly been affected with the heavy frost and all the buds and flowers have dropped;0(

Enjoy your spring Karen - ours was great but is more or less over - all that's left is a few late tulips and they really took a battering yesterday with the very high winds. Camellias round here haven't been too good either - lots of flowers but most going brown round the edges much too soon.

Funny old world, but you have lots to look forward to Karen! We're 'betwixt and between' with narcissus over but masses of cowslips still; swathes of forget-me-nots, Azalea and Pieris in full bloom, and the lilac just out. I'm off to my greenhouse again now, and hope you'll soon be enjoying some welcome warmth :))

Tulips have disintergrated with the strong gusts of wind....still the same weather today.....it does seem to be warming up though.Your plants look very good,Karen. The Diosma must be hardier than expected.

My Dad called the pink thing London Pride i think Snoop.......

we were in SW Scotland last weekend and went to Castle Kennedy..Loch Insh in Galloway, the rhododendrons were out as well as some deciduous azalea bluebells too as well as narcissi. ....the walled garden was not very far on yet though.....
its lovely there the black loch and the white loch with the gsrdens in between, huge old trees with plaques on some saying they were planted in the 1850's......on the gulf stream which helps....

Its blowing a gale here, been going for 2 days now and the rain.....
More like march than may.....your gardens taking its time Karen, ours seemed to all come out together this year!

Thanks everyone. We had showers today. I managed to get a few jobs done..mostly in the greenhouse. Thank heavens for my lovely greenhouse!! :))

As you know Karen my Camellia has been flowering for weeks but I still have the odd Snowdrop and the trees are looking greener as the leaves slowly open. I noticed today that my main border is filling out and the Tulips are wonderful. I also see the grass improving. Today is the point of change. The Roses are not making any effort at the moment but the Clematis are beginning to open. My pink Wisteria is also pretty slow. Yesterday was wet and windy while today the sun managed to appear.

Linda, i hope youre right about today being a turning point! And I think you might be! :D

I hope you are not following us because if thats the case you'll be going back to the winter Karen, rained most of the last two days, which admittedly we definitely needed, however we don't need the bitterly cold gale that is hanging around with it, its colder than it was during February, I even put my heating back on at lunchtime. today..

No Lincslass, we are having the same as you. Rain and cold. There is heat in the sun when thewind drops, but it never drops till 8pm and only if we're very lucky! It was cold today.

Very gusty rain this morning, and cooler than last week. I find it hard to believe that the garden is as far on as it is. It's been mild, so things are not far behind, but we have had so little sunshine this year. I saw on television that, this year, April was considerably sunnier than average. Not here, I'm afraid! But we haven't had the snow and cold weather that you have, Karen. I hope it soon picks up for you.

Thats right Melchi. We've had a generally sunny late winter/early spring, very dry till now. But also very windy and cold. We needed some rain, but it meeds to stop for a day or two now. The lawns are a mud bath with doggies churning them up. Hope you get lots of sunshine soon...and us too! :)

Thank you, Karen! I'm hoping it'll all balance out in the end!

Clear sky and frost at 6am this morning......thankfully the gales have blown away.....for the time beingčś×

Absolutely freezing here Pam, even with the sun. I think the cold wind moved North!

Well Karen...I think I will join in with you about the moan...only mine is about this b...laptop ! I want to do my Spring blog , but need a really bad day to do it as it is so slow, it would take most of the day to do it ! Also, as you know, we are on the allotment now which takes up a lot of my time ! My garden is also late, but only because I took all my bulbs up last year and forgot to put them back until late October !

11 May, 2015

Oh dear Rose...have you bought insufficient RAM? Or could there be a virus slowing you down? Never mind...you'll be too busy on the allotment anyway! My mini growing patch is doing ok but nothing has really grown much for weeks now. The tatties and toms are growing...but in the greenhouse! Salads are just sitting there with peas, and Beans look like they are dying off with the cold,so I've set some more. Sweet Peas....will they ever grow? I suppose they will...sooooooon!

11 May, 2015

That allotment will be keeping you busy Rose. My little food production corner is doing well cosidering the weather. Gales again today...will it ever settle down. I feel like having a good cry...cant even get my washing dry..it wont stay on the line!

11 May, 2015

Oh Karen, you are having rotten weather. After a few sunny days we are back to dull weather again today. We off to Paisley for a few days at the end of the week - perhaps it will be sunny there!

11 May, 2015

I do hope so..cloudy, windy and coooold today. :(

12 May, 2015

Today is lovely! Quite unexpected, but very welcome. Yesterday was fairly sunny, but a cold breeze kept me indoors most of the day. It is so changeable at the moment!

13 May, 2015

Yes, the breeze is cold here still. Never mind Melchi...it WILL get better. :)

13 May, 2015

Hang on in there, Karen!

14 May, 2015

Karen...I haven't a clue what a RAM is ! My son checked it for a virus and thinks the reason its slow is because it is now 4 years old ! Doesn't anything last nowadays!
I have now managed to do a blog ! It was a cold dismal day today , so took the opportunity while I could !
Chin up Karen ! Summer will soon be on its way ! You should make the most of this weather and REST ! Hahaa!

I need a rest after last night Rose. OH stabbed himself with a massive Hawthorn yesterday and was up all night in severe pain. His wrist swelled up. It was a miracle that it didn't puncture his vein as it seemed to be right on top of one! He's been to the GP today and got antibiotics and a tetanus booster. I was worried we would end up at A&E last night! At one point I woke up to find him lying on the floor trying not to throw up! Hawthorn is very nasty indeed! Cold here today and very heavy grey cloud. But I seem to remember last spring was similar, so perhaps we'll be wallowing in sunshine soon! :)
