My little project...before the big one starts!

The little project was to solve the problem of looking out on to parked cars from the patio. I decided to create a sort of informal hedge-ish extension of the existing shrub border.
Great thing was I didn’t need to buy a single plant, just moved things out of pots and around a bit from other parts of the garden. Lots of evergreens including a standard Rhody., a half standard Euonymus, Viburnum Tinus and Pinus ‘Chantry Blue’. Lots of transplanted dwarf Narcissi, a pretty alpine type Dianthus ‘Kahori Pink’, Deciduous Euonymus alatus (compact var), Purple Sage, two Chamaecyparis ‘Silver Threads’, two Crab Apples! Cotoneaster frigidus ‘Cornubia’, Photinia ‘Little Red Robin’ and Pinus mugo ‘Pumilo’.
There are now two trees less in the lawn and in front of the blue spruce I am going to dig a big shallow wildlife pond and use the spoil to heighten the mounds and create one or maybe even two turf seats. It was only a matter of time! ;)

Thanks A. Don't know if we'll ever hide the cars completely...but will certainly take the eye away from them.

What a good idea Karen, and not having to buy more plants either..I like the sound of the pond, and the raising of the mound..I remember the turf seat at your last house..definitely no bunker for a Golf course then ? thought not !..:o)

Plenty of accessible golf courses here...but doesn't stop him 'chipping' and I find the balls weeks later!

Hi Karen, nice planting, they will soon grow and obscure them a bit, it looks as if the first home, gets the best parking spot, lol, Derek.

I know Derek. Hopefully one day we will have two cars resident and two occasional visitors...but when is anyone's guess. My Osteopath says I am doing my 'Mother' job far too well for my own good! ;)

looks lovely, Karen. Wish our snow would go away but the weather is continuing very cold. Have plans for the swaley bottom this summer... have to get cracking on some exercises or I'll be too stiff and sore to keep going. This winter has been long and cold and very dispiriting. it's encouraging to see your hard work going ahead.

Thanks Lori...you get stretching out! It will be spring one day soon! I'm sorry you've had such a harsh winter. We see it a bit on the news and I've kept praying it doesn't cross the Atlantic. So far...we've missed the snow altogether. I do hope it won't come late. But I hope it changes for you very soon :)

Well done Karen, you clever girl not going to get into trouble over the spending when you already had the shrubs and trees, its going to make a huge difference and as its so open there everything should romp away.
I look forward to seeing the rest of your plans come into force, have you already asked for the help doing the digging or is that going to be a surprise for the menfolk?

Well, oh is in the know, but the big lad...he hasn't heard the joyful news yet! Will have to get it all done before he goes off to the USA again for the summer.

Oh crumbs thats a big yes and I feel sure your hubby will agree, I can remember digging our two out many years ago and the whole family got roped in, was great fun though....

I meant to ask Karen, is that your green house on the car park ?
2 Mar, 2015
Yes, that's it Rose! :)) Its a good spot for it, as it is very sunny, and it uses a corner that would never be used for anything else. I am making that whole corner in to a food production plot. I have several raised troughs for veg and a pear tree in a pot by the gate post. Behind the greenhouse are my two water butts and then a raised bed with a plum tree, strawbs, blueberries and a Chilean Guava! I'm very excited about the whole area down there which was such an eyesore when we arrived :))

I would be excited too Karen !

Good idea Karen, at least it will detract from the cars..... and a wildlife pond would be fabulous, after all you have so much space to play with there, look forward to seeing your new projects take place...
