Keeping Cosy In My New Greenhouse.

Today is wet, a little milder (well a lot milder if I’m honest!). So I took myself up to the warm dry greenhouse while OH was finishing redecoration after the latest alterations. I wasn’t shirking mind…oh no…I did all the edges yesterday and the tricky bits that a roller can’t get in to!

We had our ‘Victoriana’ fireplace removed and discovered a nice sized recess for a log burning stove.

So, while that was going on, I went and sorted out all my cuttings, seedlings, pots and potions etc. It was a really good session of tidying up and cleaning, repotting and potting up…and as I’ve nothing else to do I will now bore you all with it.

Here’s some pics….

The Olive tree and the blue pot with Echiums and Cordyline…

And the re-organised cuttings…potted up and all the pots scrubbed clean….

Under the bench…pots of Fuchsia, Dahlia and Lilies all ready to go.

And on the propagating bench we have Cosmos, Peppers, Tomatoes and Aquiligias coming up nicely. It’s a bit early for seeds yet, but as I have so many different packets in the queue, I decided to start some off really early.

My Lemon Tree..repotted in to some fresh Citrus Compost and still looking marvellous…have eaten one already. This will spend three months at least on my patio from June.

This greenhouse (12 × 8) is going to be a whole new adventure for me and a new phase in my gardening life, as I can now propagate much more easily and raise a lot from seed (saving on buying plants). It’s main function in the summer will be salad veg. production, but I also have an Apricot tree in a pot in there and I plan to have it looking really lush and beautiful for as much of the year as possible. It’s also proving to be a great place for overwintering my collection of scented leaf geraniums, which are doing much better out there than in the house. I haven’t used any insulation because I have had bad experiences in the past with condensation and mould. Without bubble wrap the greenhouse has stayed lovely and dry (albeit with a heater on).

Thanks for looking in….enjoy your greenhouses this year!

Having a greenhouse soon, hope I can keep it as tidy as yours.

Not shirking! What's the comfy chair doing in there? Sitting down to seed sow?

That's a lovely log-burner Karen, I can almost feel the warmth! Those Echiums are a good size and the fluted edge pot in the 3rd photo is sweet. You have spurred me on to get seed sowing!

All looking ready for 'Off' Karen and everything looking immaculate, however do you manage to keep things so neat and tidy? I only have to re-pot a plant and I end up with compost everywhere!

Thanks Dawn :)

Oh, Lizziebee...how exciting! I hope it goes up according to plan. :)

Siris...NEVER! Lol!

Get to it Shirley! :)) x

I love the blue pot with Echiums and Cordyline.

Waddy, those plastic potting trays are great for keeping the compost tidy!

Thanks Kath and Bathgate :)

What organisation Karen- well done - you have worked hard and your seeds and plants are well forward - I have got bubble wrap in my greenhouse to help with the heating costs - I have not noticed any condensation as yet - fingers crossed
those rows of pots are very impressive !!

Nope cannot ever see either of my g'houses looking as pristine as yours no matter how many times I clear out and tidy them up, mind you I have accumulated a lot of pots and trays over the years and like Waddy my compost gets scattered when I'm working and thats even with the potting trays, lol.
I haven't started my seed sowing yet Karen although I have been potting on some primula's, I'd scattered a lot of seedheads on a trough last year and left them to do their own thing, now I have hundreds of the little beggars, I'm hoping they do not turn out to be all one colour, only time will tell...

Hi JAne...Thanks! ...maybe I'll try it again one day...the bubble wrap.

LL....I fear those who wait to start off their seedlings have more success in the long run! But you know me!

To be honest Karen my getupandgo has disappeared at the moment and I'm struggling with myself, it happens occasionally, think I need a kick up the youknowwhat....

I know just what you mean. For me, this time of. Year is like that. I get so tired of the cold winds. It will probably return, inexplicably when you get your first warm spring day. :) don't kick yourself...be gentle! ;)

I envy you your wood burner, the cost of installing one here is exorbitant,..... because of lining the chimney, which is three times more than the wood burner!! still I live in hope, have already started a log collection lol
your greenhouse is immaculate, it will be worth its weight in gold, all those lovely salads, and the lemon tree is doing really well.

Spick and span and so well organised. Your greenhouse looks cosy, as well as the woodburner. Can't believe it is March already and things beginning to stir. Lovely sunny day to day but a bit chilly in a stiff breeze. I have a few tiny perlargoniums, I bought at the GC, in my unheated mini greenhouse

I also love your Blue pot, with the Cordyline and Echiums..such a lovely combination...and although I don't have a Greenhouse,I do like to try and keep my side of the shed nice and tidy..yours looks great..I pot all mine up outside on the paved area and if it's a bit chilly,I've even done them on the conservatory floor ...shhh! :o)
I love your revamp in the house too,and especially like the Alcove, next to your lovely new fire..

Thanks Angela, Dorjac and Bloomer :)

Oh Karen...I wish I still had mine ! I used to love this time of year out in the green house, but search as i may, there just isn't room anywhere and the little plastic one from last year ripped with the wind ! I do have my little conservatory though and this morning am going to move furniture around to get a shelving system in ! Well..thats the plan ! Hahaa!
I love your green house. I hope you don't nod off in there in the warmth when you should be working ! lol
The fireplace is lovely ! What a find ! xx

Poor you Rose..that's a bummer..no room. Still...you have a pond, whereas mine is still just a 'plan'! :)

2 Mar, 2015

A pond Karen ! Hahaa! My neighbour calls it a big puddle ! I cut my Spirea right down a few weeks ago which was hiding it and it looks a bit better now !
I did actually make room in the conservatory today for my upright stagings and pricked out the Rudbeckias and new lime Aquilegias, curtesy of the Garden News magazine.

2 Mar, 2015

Pricking out eh? I think it will be a week or two before I reach that stage! :) Well done making room for them.

2 Mar, 2015

Goodness, you're getting on Karen!
Makes me feel a bit fed up......I have so much hard preparation work before I can start growing. Gravel to lay, shed to break down and dispose of base to be lifted and broken up before digging for veg patch, new Base to lay for greenhouse....blimey the list is endless .
On the subject of the temperature....I saw a forecast saying we would have 15 C this coming Saturday. but, no gardening for me....I shall be roaming around the farm park dressed as Wizard Cello(hot work) at a Harry Potter weekend....yes, Harry and Dumbledore lookalikes will also be there!!

3 Mar, 2015

Paul..you are even more impatient than me, and I really doubted that was possible! You've only just arrived! It was 12 months before I got the greenhouse....and that was going really fast and working really hard! You enjoy your wizardry...plenty of time for gardening yet. ;) I can guarantee you...It won 't be 15C here on Saturday. We'll be very lucky to get 10!

Have found a place for a greenhouse at long last, just need the slabs putting down and then it can go up. Got the slabs and the sand in ready for the big dig out. will post pictures when it is in place. Only 8 x 6 but will be big enough for what we want and hopefully it will not be too long before I am growing seeds and things again. xx

12 Mar, 2015

That's great Mum! Looking forward to seeing it. :)

12 Mar, 2015

:O) only 11 more get ups for Paul and then we shall be able to coffee together in the garden, so looking forward to it, and so is he. :O)

12 Mar, 2015

Oh my! That will be lovely! I feel envious. Scott has 21 months still to go. Ever since we moved here, work has lost its appeal for him, and I can't say I blame him!

12 Mar, 2015

Paul has stayed on for an extra couple of months as they had not got sorted for someone else to come in. He keeps saying he is semi retired and coming home early lol. says they can sack him if they like, he just doesn't seem to be bothered for some strange reason. lol

12 Mar, 2015

Hmm...wonder why! ;)

12 Mar, 2015

lol :O) and all the good weather to come, he will be as happy as Larry outside this summer just pottering and doing his own thing. So looking forward to not having to cook at tea time also, we shall be able to eat at lunchtime, and snooze all afternoon lol :O) me thinks not!!! the grass will be growing and the ducks will be hatching lol he will be so busy he will wonder how on earth he managed to go to work. lol :O)

13 Mar, 2015

Yes, I'm sure that will be the case. :)
